Pretty good but not without a few flaws.

This is one of about a dozen Boston Blackie TV episodes in the public domain that are available for free download at In general, the shows are entertaining but rather simple mysteries. After all, it's hard to make a complex on in under 30 minutes!

"Waterfront Murder" begins with a man being killed with the most ridiculous weapon--a blowgun! This is the sort of ways folks were killed in B-movies and TV but I doubt if anyone outside the Amazonian rain forest was ever killed this way! When Blackie goes to interview the widow, she, too, dies from a blowgun dart! Why and who is behind this? Leave it up to Blackie, Mary and their dog to figure it out in this one...and YES, the dog does seem more important in solving the case than good old Inspector Farraday! There were a couple minor problems with this otherwise interesting show. One I already mentioned--the contrived idea of a blowgun. The other is a standard cliché where Blackie is escaping and has a fist-fight with one of the baddies---and not once does the bad guy call out for help or in any way alert his compatriots about Blackie's escape! Duh...
