CITY DETECTIVE –The Case of the Beautiful Miss X- 1955

This is episode 64 of the 1953 to 1955 Police series, CITY DETECTIVE. Rod Cameron headlines as a Detective in a major U.S. city. The series ran for a total of 64 episodes. The series featured quite a few well-known actors in guest bits. These include, Hugh Beaumont, Whit Bissell, Marie Windsor, Carolyn Jones, Fess Parker, Angie Dickinson, Russell Johnson, Claude Akins, Lynn Bari, George Macready, Beverly Garland, Ann Savage and Lee Van Cleef.

Police Detective Lt Rod Cameron is trying to find the identity of a woman found close to dead. The woman, Lynn Bari, was found in the water downstream from a high bridge. Did she jump or was she thrown? The catch here is that Bari seems to have lost her memory. No idea of how she ended up in the drink, or who she is.

The Police manage to track her down from a missing persons report. It seems Bari works for wealthy couple, Paul Langton and Marguerite Chapman. They tell the Police they believe that Bari had taken the breakup of a romance hard. They offer to take her back to their apartment to care for here.

Cameron, ever the disbeliever, thinks Bari may be faking the whole memory loss bit. But he releases Bari into the care of the couple. The next night, Cameron pays Bari a visit at the Langton home to see if there is any change. Bari seems somewhat frightened of Langton which sets off alarm bells for Detective Cameron.

Cameron takes the woman aside for a private chat. Bari tells Cameron that some memory has returned and that Langton scares her for some reason. Cameron decides this needs looking into.

He rustles up the man, Walter Reed, who was in the affair with Bari. Reed however drops a bombshell when he says Bari is not the woman he was involved with. It turns out that Chapman was his former paramour. Bari it seems is really the wife of Langton. Langton and Chapman had meet, fell in love and decided to bump off Bari.(Langton's real wife) The attempt had failed but when Bari lost her memory, the pair decided to run with the play. They would bump off Bari later.

Not the best of stories, but, it is still a quick bit of television. I will never say no to seeing, the pretty Bari, or Miss Chapman in anything.
