Exclusive: Why Jake Gyllenhaal Was the Only Choice for 'Stronger' -- Plus, See the Movie's Emotional Poster

18 July 2017 8:00 AM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

It's difficult to get through the trailer for Stronger -- the real-life story of Jeff Bauman, who became a double amputee following the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing -- without being brought to tears. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Bauman on screen and the movie's poster, debuting on Et, shows him mid-physical therapy with the tagline, "Strength Defines Us."

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions

Director David Gordon Green tells Et that his film is more than just a tearjerker, though. "You're in for a ride," he said by phone. "That certainly expresses a side of the emotional intensity of the movie, but you might be surprised to find a good sense of humor woven in there as well. Expect a few chuckles alongside a tear or two."

Trailer Hits For Boston Marathon Bombing Movie Stronger

22 June 2017 12:31 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Last year, audiences saw the release of Patriots Day, a film that chronicled the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing. However, where that film covered the manhunt that followed the actual bombing, this new film, Stronger, will follow a different kind of manhunt.

Stronger follows the journey of Jeff Bauman. If you’ll recall, following the actual bombing, there were a few iconic pictures that circulated. One of these pictures was that of a man getting wheeled away in a wheelchair with his legs torn up. That photo was Bauman, who went on to write his memoirs, also titled Stronger, and become a real symbol for the slogan “Boston Strong.”

As one would expect, life after the bombing wasn’t easy, and it looks like the new film, Stronger — directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express — will be chronicling that journey. Based on this trailer, it looks like they’ll »

Kumail Nanjiani is about to become a movie star. His film “The Big Sick” was the hit of this year’s Sundance Film Festival and quickly became the best reviewed comedy in recent memory.

Nanjiani is an unlikely star. A Pakistani-American stand up comedian – best known for playing the straight man in supporting roles, most notably as Dinesh in HBO’s “Silicon Valley”. Preacher Season 2 Review

15 June 2017 4:38 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

Preacher is not for everyone. If the cheesily perfect outer space-faring opening minutes of the show’s premiere season weren’t warning enough, the next ten hours eventually amassed an impressive assortment of spontaneous combustion, an Irish vampire with a machine gun for a mouth, mind-control super powers, immortal angels, a supernatural telephone, a guy appropriately named Arseface, and – eventually, confoundingly – the quest for God.

It was – is – a lot to take in. Preacher season 2 has no room for your confusion; the opening two hours of the new season are manic and exhausting in the absolute best sense, because they feel like they have a focused, meaningful purpose. It’s like the show is just getting started, with a road trip plotline that has the figurehead of all existence in its sights, and a pure evil cowboy from hell in its rear-view mirror. »

New Halloween Movie Begins Shooting This Fall

16 May 2017 3:07 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Danny McBride keeps saying the right things about the upcoming Halloween movie he is working on with David Gordon Green. He continues to insist that it isn't a reboot, but without seeing anything from it yet, it is hard to know what to call it. Despite a little bit of mysteriousness surrounding the movie in that sense, McBride is keeping the story close to his vest. He has revealed when the movie is going to start shooting, though, which is very encouraging.

The actor/writer/producer recently appeared on the Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show on Sirius Xm. Danny McBride was promoting Alien: Covenant, which is sort of his first foray into horror and features him stepping out of what we know him for, which has mostly been comedy. But he has been a horror fan for a very long time, which led his frequent collaborator and college buddy David Gordon Green, »

New Halloween Movie Won't Have an Immortal Michael Myers

Danny McBride is taking notes from the past to bring the Halloween Returns reboot back to its horror glory. When it was announced earlier this year that director David Gordon Lee (Eastbound and Down, Pineapple Express) and Danny McBride were going to reboot the iconic horror series it left a lot of people scratching their heads. Even after the blessing of original director/screenwriter John Carpenter, who will also serve as a consultant and executive producer on the reboot, fans were still left feeling a bit strange about the choice of the duo behind Your Highness taking a stab at the Halloween franchise.

McBride was recently on the Empire Film Podcast where he discussed how he and Gordon Green hope to stay faithful to the original movies. Here's what he had to say.

"Look at where the Halloween franchise has gone. There's a lot of room for improvement. David and »

Inherent Vice

Who doesn’t want to watch detective Joaquin Phoenix stumbling around Los Angeles trying to solve the disappearance of his former girlfriend while fried out of his mind? “Inherent Vice” has a stoner protagonist so funny and oddly charming that he could be the proud face of 4/20. But a lot of what makes the movie such a perfect stoner film is how Paul Thomas Anderson filters Thomas Pynchon’s novel through his own hazy, stoned-out filter. Watching “Inherent Vice” provides the actual sensation of being spaced out. You’ll be laughing nonstop one minute and then scratching your head the next. Long stretches seem to fade into each other. When it comes to stoner movies, “Inherent Vice” is a new classic.
