Character error

The movie star rents a huge saltwater boat to go out into the Atchafalaya Basin. This may have been done to show the character's naiveté.

Factual errors

FBI agent Gomez uses a snub nose .38 caliber revolver on duty. FBI agents have a limited list of approved pistols. That list does not include any revolvers or .38 caliber weapons.

James Bell Hood is portrayed in a lieutenant general's uniform in the movie. By the time he had attained that rank, he had lost his right leg at the Battle of Chickamauga in 1863. In the movie, the character has both legs. Furthermore, Hood never served in Louisiana during the Civil War, but lived and died in New Orleans after the war.

Revealing mistakes

When Tommy Lee bashes the guy's head into the pay phone at the bus station, his head clearly goes between the phone and the divider, not hitting anything.

Tommy Lee picks the lock with one hand and one tool. A flashlight is in his other hand, he holds. Lock-picking usually requires one tool to hold the tumblers and one to turn the mechanism. Most people can only do that with both hands.

When Kelly runs to Dave's house to get his help, no one is in the car which we have been led to believe belongs to the villain. By the time the window lowers, just before Kelly is shot, the car has moved. One could conclude that the villain was either out of the car or had ducked below eye level.
