The big question in this program is "What If?" It's perhaps the biggest "what if" question ever asked, as far as man building something. If this project would ever be completed, all agree it would be not only the largest structure on earth, but the greatest. We are talking about building an entire city in a huge pyramid form, an all-encompassing city holding 750,000 people.
There are so many facts, figures and hypotheses in this 60-minute program that it almost gave me headache. The figures alone to this project are almost beyond comprehension. This city would be built in the Tokyo Bay, just to the east of the city of Tokyo. Why that spot? Because Tokyo, as of the early 2000s, was a city of 12 million people with very limited space. In fact, there is no more space to build. The only vacant "real estate" in the entire area is in the bay!
All the potential problems of building this gigantic pyramid are discussed. Many of the situations have answers, surprisingly, and the idea is to a build a place that will not only function perfectly but withstand the potential weather disasters in that area of the world: namely, earthquakes and tsunamis - two of the most powerful weather disasters imaginable.
Interestingly, somewhat of a model of this amazing future project was built out in the desert in the United States. In Las Vegas, the Luxor was built - a giant hotel in the shape of a pyramid. Much was learned from that amazing building, such as how to build on an angle instead of the normal horizontal and vertical, and what that does to wind. The Japanese project would be 55 of these Luxor buildings. That gives you some idea how huge it would be, and it would not be enclosed.
Other amazing projections: no cars but an amazing transport system that would go up, down and diagonal. Domed buildings would be inside everywhere and......well, so many things to discuss I don't have room here.
All in all, this is a fascinating idea that may never materialize. However, as one man states at the end, just dreaming about this project has lead to many other inventions and better ways to handle problems in everyday life today.
The "City In A Pyramid" is the ultimate example of "dreaming big."
