It's f#cking WEIRD!
22 June 2016 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

I tried this show again after the abysmal episode "Quivering Heap" because there was a new cast and Paul Jennings was kind of booted off the adaptation of his own book series to go on for another 2 seasons. The results are... INSANE! I'm sorry but once I describe the plot, I think you'll agree that this is a top contender for the weirdest kids entertainment in history. Okay, lets go.

Peter Twist is running away from bullies again (well, I've been told it's the same 3) and when he loses them he goes to pee on a tree, they find him but the tree is sentient and beats up the bullies for him. So the tree spirit reveals itself and Pete instantly falls in love with it. He rushes home to tell his family (but not wholly because falling in love with a tree raises eyebrows even in a show as weird as this). The tree spirit visits him and finds out although they've made out once that means Peter is expecting!... Did I mention this show is weird yet? In 2 days he'll burp the baby out of his mouth to breathe new life into dead trees. He feels as though the best course of action is to tell his family, as insane as saying he's a pregnant 13 year old boy is. Soon his whole town knows and the money-grubber Mr Gribble (and when I thought Twist was a horrible last name!) turns it into a media circus.

I'm going to say some of the jokes do actually get a laugh. None of it's laugh-out-loud but stuff like Pete telling his family or getting emotional at how people are treating it is actually kind of funny. The cast is also a lot better. I'd say the worst actor out of the one's listed is Janinie Loftus. I'd also say the subplot about Bronson trying to get his step-mother pregnant (without knowing anything about it of course!) is really cringe-inducing. I'd also say not all of the jokes hit either, making this 25 minute episode about male teenage pregnancy turn into "What the hell am I watching?!" as a reaction. I'd say despite it being dated, if you're nostalgic for the show then it's okay.
