Ghost of Red Beard
14 December 2013 | by (victoria b.c canada) – See all my reviews

An undead pirate by the name of Red Beard is haunting Skull Island, along with his crew. Scooby and the gang visit Mr. Magnus to offer their assistance. He tells them about the legendary ghost of Red Beard. Along the way, Scooby & his gang must overcome the nefarious Red Beard & his cronies to solve the mystery. This is a very entertaining episode. I enjoy it each time I watch it, but it isn't necessarily a favorite of mine. The villain is quite mundane. I don't find pirates to be all that threatening. Red Beard's laugh grates my nerves, as does his incessant shouting. If this episode has a better villain, it would have been classic. The tremendous gags are what really make this one. Scooby playing around with fog is a good one, and Scooby & Shaggy cooking up a meal for Red Beard is another good one. (Chains, cobwebs, and oven ashes, yech!) I realize this is completely irrelevant, but Shaggy says he doesn't use soap very often. Does that mean he doesn't shower? How can the gang stand to be around him? I digress. This does have some excellent atmosphere, great gags, a creepy butler (His "Yesssssssss" when answering the door. *Brrr*) and more than enough to overcome the average story and the lame villain
