Johnny Depp and Edgar Wright’s The Night Stalker Taps Screenwriter D.V. DeVincentis

18 May 2012 6:10 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

After we reported that Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) was set to direct Johnny Depp (Dark Shadows) in the feature film version of The Night Stalker, all that was left to complete was attaching a writer.  Surprise!  The powers that be have tapped D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity) to script the big screen adaptation of the 1970s series.  The original show followed Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin), a Chicago-based tabloid reporter who always seemed to find himself rooting out a supernatural source to the crimes he investigated.  The show, created by Jeff Rice, only ran for one season but did well in syndication; well enough that Depp, Wright and now DeVincentis are all attached for the feature treatment.  THR reports that DeVincentis is the latest addition to The Night Stalker project, making it the most recent development in his resume that includes the Stephen Frears-directed, Lay the Favorite and the adaptation currently-in-production, »

DeVincentis from the 2006 novel by Frank Portman. Thomas Mann Will Be King Dork

25 March 2012 5:32 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

You’d think he’d still be grounded after the manic antics of party pic Project X, but it would appear that Thomas Mann’s parents are letting him out again for another high school film, as he’s now in talks to take one of the leads in King Dork. The project, which High Fidelity’s Dv DeVincentis adapted from Frank Portman’s 2006 novel, follows best pals Tom and Sam, who deal with their tough times at school by bonding over a shared love of classic rock ‘n’ roll in 1987.If he signs a deal, Mann will play Tom (yet another film where he goes by his own first name? It’s getting to be a habit), while Keir Gilchrist, who he worked with on It’s Kind Of A Funny Story, is circling the role of Sam. Thomas Mann Going From ‘Project X’ to ‘King Dork’

25 March 2012 3:07 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

Though he went to great lengths to become cool in Project X, it looks like actor Thomas Mann is right back to being a dork. But that’s okay, because unlike Project X, his new endeavor, King Dork, actually sounds like it has a chance to be funny and entertaining. According to a report from Variety, King Dork was the first project that Gary Sanchez Productions bought when it was formed by Adam McKay and Will Ferrell back in 2006. Adapted from a Frank Portman novel of the same name, D.V. DeVincentis’ (High Fidelity) script tells the story of a couple of late 80s-era outsiders who bond over a love of classic rock and form a friendship that helps get them through high school. Mann is in talks to play the lead kid, and It’s Kind of a Funny Story star Keir Gilchrist his friend. Parks and Recreations’ Nick Offerman is in negotiations to play the Mann »

Weekend Box-Office: 'Hunger Games' On Fire with Third Best Opening Ever

Everyone knew The Hunger Games was going to be big, but how big seemed to be a mystery, but all those questions have been answered as the first film based on the Suzanne Collins trilogy of young adult novels now own the third best opening of all-time. Let's take a closer look... Laremy predicted the #1 movie correctly 4 Weeks In A Row The Hunger Games When I reported The Hunger Games had brought in $19.7 million from midnight openings alone and then said it should be looking at $150-160 million for the weekend, a lot of commenters didn't agree. My theory was that it wouldn't hit The Dark Knight status, but it would certainly top Twilight franchise status due to a larger demographic appeal. As it turns out that's exactly what happened, and with high CinemaScore ratings it will be interesting to see how this one does next weekend. Anyone care to wager an early guess? »
