The script centers on a young woman with a long-term phobia of the bogeyman, who voluntarily checks herself into a mental health facility with the hope of conquering her overwhelming fears. However, much to her horror, she discovers that some things are terrifying on purpose, and confronting her demons was not the best course of action. Written by
Average slasher/horror, highlighted by curvy Danielle Savre
Released in 2007, "Boogeyman 2" takes place almost completely in a mental hospital in the Los Angeles area (where it was shot). The focus is a ward of teenagers who grapple with various fears. The protagonist, Laura (Danielle Savre), fears what's in the dark, i.e. the boogeyman, because she and her brother (Matt Cohen) witnessed their parents being murdered ten years earlier. Renee O'Connor and Tobin Bell play therapists at the hospital where individuals mysteriously start dying one night.
"Boogeyman 2" isn't bad and it's highlighted by curvy Danielle Savre, but it's a decidedly average slasher pic. For comparison, practically every Friday the 13th sequel is more entertaining. And the filmmakers seriously drop the ball with Savre as they fail to take advantage of her God-given form and I'm not talking about nudity or even partial nudity. She has a gorgeous figure and they should've spotlighted it, but they didn't.
Still, she's an effective protagonist and there's enough good here to make the movie worthwhile. It's pretty much a murder mystery, which isn't hard to figure out. ***MILD SPOILER*** Some say that the boogeyman is merely human, unlike part 3 where it's definitely spiritual in nature, i.e. a demon, but there are hints that a malevolent spirit is lurking in the shadows and is indirectly involved. ***END SPOILER***
The film runs 93 minutes.
