The film is taken from a 1957 screenplay of the same name by American playwright Tennessee Williams [1911 - 1983].

Tennessee Williams was a prolific writer of plays and short stories. Some of his works that have been made into popular movies include: A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958), Suddenly, Last Summer (1959), Summer and Smoke (1961), The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone (1961), Sweet Bird of Youth (1962), The Night of the Iguana (1964), and This Property Is Condemned (1966).
