Brent Chugg's death in an automobile accident causes his son Tommy to become increasingly bitter and resentful toward Robert Hoffman, the other driver. The court's exoneration of Hoffman eventually drives Tommy to obtain revenge by murdering Hoffman's son John. He plans the same fate for Robert Hoffman as soon as he can locate him in the remote Rain Mountain resort area. Dan Mathews and Sergeant Williams must piece together small pieces of the story from several sources in order to finally learn Robert Hoffman's whereabouts and Tommy Chugg's intentions.
