- With two couples forced to pull out due to injury, the remaining eight couples have to include a cross-roll in their routines, and the two couples with the lowest combined scores compete in a skate-off after which the judges vote for the couple they want to save.—Allister Coots
- Hosts Jamie Durie and Sami Lukis began the show by saying that it had been a dramatic week for the celebrities, with four of them having to be sent to hospital after injuring themselves during training, and two of those having to pull out of the competition. Model and actress Annalise Braakensiek added to her two fractured ribs by busting a knee, meaning that she and Trent Nelson-Bond were forced to leave the competition, and also out were Olympic swimmer Giaan Rooney and Jonathon O'Doherty after Giaan dislocated her ankle bone.
The celebrities who were still soldiering on despite their injuries were former test cricketer Michael Slater, who had to have his fingers operated on after his partner Anya D'Jamirze accidentally skated over them, and 2006 Young Australian of the Year Trisha Broadbridge, who sustained concussion after a fall during her training. In spite of all these mishaps, eight couples would take to the ice again this week to perform new routines choreographed by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, who came out to perform a brief routine of their own as a warm-up. From this week onwards, all of the routines performed by the couples had to include a required element, and this week it was a cross-roll. Commentator Andrew Voss explained this element further.
Jamie and Sami then introduced the panel of judges - Belinda Noonan, Mark Storton, Alisa Camplin, Jason Gardiner and Karen Barber - and the eight couples who would be skating tonight. They also informed the viewers that the voting lines have now closed.
The first couple to skate tonight were model Jake Wall and his partner Maria Filipov, who performed their routine to the Robbie Williams single "Rock DJ". The performance included a roll-up with a double rotation, a cartwheel with a one-foot pivot rotation and an aeroplane. At the end of the routine, Andrew pointed out its highlights in a replay, then Jamie and Sami interviewed the couple before the judges expressed their views on the performance. Karen was very impressed, noting that the couple looked very comfortable, while Belinda mentioned that the judges saw their charisma, and that the couple winked. The judges then revealed their scores - Belinda gave them 5.0 out of a possible 6.0, Mark 4.5, Alisa 4.5, Jason 4.0 and Belinda 5.0, for a total of 23.0 points, which would be the highest score of the night.
Performing next were politician Jackie Kelly and her partner Pavel Aubrecht, who skated to "Hot Honey Rag", from the musical Chicago. Their routine included a catch hold lift, a pull-through and an assisted jump. When the judges delivered their verdict, Alisa thought that theirs was a light and fun routine from a good competitor, but Jason thought their rendition "was more like a wet, sloppy bag", lacking any pep, fizz or sparkle. Belinda scored them 4.0, Mark 4.0, Alisa 4.0, Jason 3.0 and Karen 4.0, for a total of 19.0 points.
Next to take to the ice were Michael Slater and his partner Anya D'Jamirze, whose routine, performed to the Soft Cell hit "Tainted Love", included a side lift in the arabesque position, a Hoover and a jump into their finishing position. In the judges' remarks, Karen was really proud of Michael's hard work, and Mark thought that one of the best basic skaters had got off to a very good start, and he could see the focus that had led to Michael smashing centuries against England's cricket team. Belinda scored them 4.0, Mark 3.0, Alisa 3.5, Jason 3.0 and Karen 3.5, for a total of 17.0 points.
Skating next were former Australian Rules footballer Dermott Brereton and his partner Pam O'Connor, who performed to "Rhinestone Cowboy" by Glen Campbell. Their routine included a wall hover lift, a push-and-pull while holding a leg, a step-up lift and a spin with a leg hold. When the judges gave their remarks, Belinda commented that although the couple had been "show-worthy" last week, they didn't give any more this week, instead they gave less, while Mark suggested that Dermott needed to talk to wardrobe about his outfit. Belinda scored them 2.5, Mark 2.5, Alisa 4.0, Jason 3.5 and Karen 3.5, for a total of 16.0 points.
The next couple to perform were Trisha Broadbridge and her partner Alexandre "Sasha" Pavlov, who skated their routine to the Westlife hit "You Raise Me Up". Their performance included a back slide, a stag spin, a shoulder hook lift into a crucifix and a float spin. The couple received mixed reviews from the judges, with Karen commenting that they had a steep learning curve and their hard work was paying off, but Jason remarked that Trisha was like Helen Keller on ice, and looked like someone had just thrown up. Belinda scored them 3.5, Mark 3.0, Alisa 3.0, Jason 2.0 and Karen 4.0, for a total of 15.5 points.
They were followed by model Lara Bingle and her partner Matt Evers, who performed to the song "It's Oh So Quiet" by Björk in a routine that included a death spiral, a rainbow lift, a high hitch kick, a swing lift, a barbell lift, a swoop and a low spin. When the judges delivered their verdict, Alisa noted that the couple took some risks and were rewarded, but Mark didn't think that their hard tricks were quite happening. Belinda scored them 3.5, Mark 3.5, Alisa 4.5, Jason 4.0 and Karen 4.5, for a total of 20.0 points.
Taking to the ice next were Getaway presenter Jules Lund and his partner Kristina Cousins, who skated their routine to the Madonna song "Hung Up". Their performance included a stag lift, a split lift with a split on the ice, a pull-through and a lay-back finish. In the judges' remarks, Alisa felt that the couples' nerves still showed, though their presentation had improved. Jason also noticed their improvement, but added that it was like watching an awkward giraffe on ice, while Mark "feared for life and limb". Belinda scored them 2.0, Mark 1.5, Alisa 2.5, Jason 2.5 and Karen 3.0, for a total of 11.5 points.
The last couple to skate tonight were Today co-host Karl Stefanovic and his partner Linda Aubrecht, who performed their routine to the song "Is This The Way To Amarillo" by Tony Christie, producing a rotating upside-down lift, three butterfiles - two for Karl and one for Linda - a pull-through and another lift at the end. When the judges delivered their verdicts, Belinda noticed that they had trouble in their lifts, in a manner that suggested that they had overskated and needed to relax, while Jason noted that there was chemistry between the couple, and he hoped that they stayed in the competition, if only for the comedy value. Belinda scored them 4.5, Mark 4.0, Alisa 3.5, Jason 4.0 and Karen 4.5, for a total of 20.5 points.
Then it was time for the judges' scores and the viewer votes to be tallied together, and Jamie began revealling the verdict by announcing in random order the six safe couples, those whose combined scores placed them in the top six. When they had all been revealed, Michael & Anya and Trisha & Sasha - who coincidentally were the two couples whose celebrities were recovering from injuries sustained in training - were left as the bottom two couples. Jamie then explained to them what would happen next - they had to repeat their performances in a skate-off, after which the judges would vote for the couple that they wished to save. In their decision, they had to disregard what they had seen previously and base their vote only on the routines that the couples were about to perform.
After Michael & Anya and Trisha & Sasha reprised their previous performances in a skate for their survivial, it was time for the judges to reveal who they had voted to save. Karen cast her vote to save Trisha, Jason voted for Michael, Alisa voted for Trisha and Mark voted for Michael. With the couples tied on two votes each, Belinda's vote would decide who stayed and who left, and she voted for Michael, meaning that Trisha and Sasha would be leaving tonight.
Feeling very disappointed about the close decision, Trisha said "Everyone remembers who goes out first, so remember me ... I found the experience very empowering". Though she and Sasha were the first couple to be eliminated, they were actually the third to leave, with the first two pulling out due to injuries. Jamie and Sami then closed the show by recapping the voting numbers for the seven remaining couples and announcing that the voting lines were now open.
