Disturbance 2013 starts in 'New York City, Saturday Night' where Howie (David Fink) arrives home at his flat that he shares with his friends Jeff (Rich Januszkiewicz) & Lindsay (Janel Benish). Howie is about to take a shower but is shocked to see the blood soaked dead body of a young woman in the bath, the friends look at each & none of them seem to have a clue who she is or how she ended up dead in their bath. Then her phone rings...
Photographed, edited, written, produced & directed by Joe Burke on apparently a meagre $1000 budget Disturbance 2013 is a reasonable 13 minute long mystery thriller. The script isn't really long enough to get totally absorbed in & it's best viewed as a little time filler rather than anything overly significant. The basic story is alright, at 13 minutes in length it obviously moves along at a decent pace & while it isn't anything that's going to stay with you for very long it's a perfectly entertaining way to pass 13 minutes which I would imagine is all it set out to be. I must admit I didn't think the ending was that great & was just about the most predictable way it could have went, I'm not totally convinced a dead body in a bath tub wouldn't be noticed by at least one of the three flatmates at some point during the day either...
This looks alright & the version I saw was in 2:35:1 widescreen so this at least had some effort put into it. Set in New York it was apparently shot in Illinois in Chicago, the entire thing takes place in a flat so it doesn't really matter. Apart from a bit of blood there's no graphic gore although there's a fair amount of profanity.
Disturbance 2013 is an OK way to pass 13 minutes, it won't change your life or anything but it's alright. I'm not sure how you'd get hold of a copy though, try a certain well known video sharing website... you know the one I mean!
