It is barely noticeable, but when "Norma" brings in a propane tank for grills the valve handle is the old style round. When she turns the handle it changes to the new federally mandated O.P.D. (Overfill Prevention Device) indicator style handle. Then right before she lights her cigarette it switches back to the old style tank handle. See more »

Trailer horror is definitely not trailer trash.
29 December 2009 | by (Edinburgh.) – See all my reviews

Some horror movies delve into dark recesses of the human psyche and/or mirror things in society that we don't always want to see. Some horror movies reinvent the icons and archetypes of the past and put a fresh spin on them, dragging them into the modern age with blood, sweat and tears. And some horror movies just set some carnage in a trailer park and allow you to be most entertained for 90 minutes. Trailer Park Of Terror is, you may have guessed, that movie.

There's not a lot to say about the thin story. We get a decent, though strange (because the tone is only firmly established later into the movie), opening sequence showing young Norma (played by the really rather fine Nichole Hiltz) trying to leave her trailer park home and go to the dance with her beau. Certain things happen and certain events are put into motion that lead to the creation of the Trailer Park Of Terror. Go forward some years and we have the usual group of troubled teens being driven home by their pastor. Guess where they end up in the middle of a dark and rainy night? Oh yeah. Then the fun really begins.

Damned redneck killers terrorising teens then, basically. Yep. That's it. Nothing more to say. Fortunately, director Steve Goldmann (working from Timothy Dolan's adequate script) keeps things brisk, full of twisted humour and never too far away from a moment of nastiness or two. Based on a series of comics, the movie certainly has that sense of lurid fun throughout and I was constantly expecting "The Cryptkeeper" to put in an appearance every so often.

For the cast, nobody really makes that much of an impression outside of Nichole Hiltz and Myk Watford (almost constantly riffing away on his guitar) but it has to be said that all of the characters are fleshed out just enough to get by and the baddies themselves are all fairly memorable and have their unique approach to mistreating potential victims.

There are some decent effects on show but there are also some that look like they could have been vastly improved with some sticky tape and an extra few dollars but them's the breaks and that still does not detract from what is a fun, dumb slice of horror fun.

See this if you like: 2001 Maniacs, House Of 1000 Corpses, "Tales From The Crypt".
