Halloween “recalibration” coming from Saw writers

10 February 2015 11:32 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With many of horror’s classic big-bads being rejuvenated and renewed many times over, it seems that one of the genre’s biggest figures, Michael Myers, is set to return in a new film from Dimension Films.

The Hollywood Reporter is today reporting that a new chapter of the Halloween franchise is set to go before the cameras very soon, with frequent Saw writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan (Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, Saw 3D) set to write the film, which is being touted as a “re-calibration” rather than a reboot or remake.

In layman’s terms, it would seem that the new film would be in-line with Rob Zombie’s previous two Halloween films, keeping continuity from those but changing some other elements. There had been word last year to that effect over the status of the franchise.

While Melton and Dunstan are involved, no director has »

Halloween Is Getting Another Movie, Get The Weird Details

10 February 2015 10:48 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It appears that the long and storied Halloween franchise will see the villainous visage of Michael Myers slash and stab his way to theaters in an all new rendition. While the last two films saw Rob Zombie give us his directorial serial spin on the classic killer, it appears that after years of dormancy, writers from the Saw films are in line to script the next chapter in the venerable victim-vanquishing series. However, whatever you do, just don.t let the folks working on the film hear you call it a "reboot." In fact, they have a completely different and rather odd "r-word" that they're using to describe the new sequel. According to a scoop from The Hollywood Reporter, the new Halloween is a go with the Saw IV-VII scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan tasked to write the script for the upcoming film - which at one time »

Saw’s Dunstan & Melton on New Halloween

9 February 2015 4:06 PM, PST | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the scripters behind Saw IV-VII, the Feast series and The Collector and The Collection, will pen a new Halloween, finally following Rob Zombie’s films. THR reported the news of the film, to be produced by Malek Akkad and Matt Stein. No director is attached or announced, and it seems there’s little sense what to call the…

New 'Halloween' Movie Gets 'Saw' Sequel Writers

9 February 2015 3:51 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Dimension Films is going back to Haddonfield, Illinois for a new Halloween project, hiring writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who wrote the last four Saw movies, to craft the screenplay. Heat Vision Blog's sources say the project is not a reboot, remake or a re-imagining, with one source calling the project a "re-calibration." No director is attached at this time, and no details were given for this new story, which will likely still follow the maniacal serial killer Michael Myers.

We reported back in August that The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films are calling the project Halloween: The Next Chapter. The story would follow the same continuity from Rob Zombie's Halloween and Halloween II reboots, although Rob Zombie himself was not coming back to direct. Those details have yet to be confirmed, but the earlier report also indicated that the studio was throwing out the previous version of the »
