Crime Time: Top 10 Serial Killers in Movies

21 May 2014 2:47 PM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The phrase "serial killer" is most often attributed to the late FBI agent Robert Ressler, who coined the term along with fellow agent John Douglas as they began profiling and researching murder cases in the 1970s. His work led him to have direct contact with serial killers, with Ressler apparently receiving a painting from killer John Wayne Gacy with an inscription that apparently read: "Dear Bob Ressler, you cannot hope to enjoy the harvest without first laboring in the fields. Best wishes and good luck. Sincerely, John Wayne Gacy, June 1988."

The inscription sounds like it came out of a movie, which perhaps isn't so surprising since Hollywood has been making movies about serial killers since the silent era. Sometimes these movies are about real-life killers, other times they are based on real-life killers or events, or, and perhaps even more disturbing, they are based on nothing but imagination. Versatile Rolls Out ‘Abattoir,’ ‘Blind,’ Picks Up ‘Gente’ (Exclusive)

16 May 2014 11:14 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

One-year-old Versatile, the Paris-based sales company headed by Pape Boye and Violaine Pichon, has closed a slew of sales on two flagship titles on its first-year slate: Supernatural thriller “Abattoir,” helmed by Darren Lynn Bousman, director of “Saw II,” “Saw III” and “Saw IV,” and Sundance winner “Blind,” from first-time Norwegian helmer Eskil Vogt.

Underscoring the robust eclecticism of its slate, Versatile is also introducing at Cannes “Gente de bien,” Colombian Franco Lolli’s Critics’ Week entry.

Produced by Jesse Berger via Radical Studios’ genre banner Dark Web, and co-produced by France’s Les Enfants Terribles, run by Yoel Dahan and Yohan Baiada, “Abattoir” will topline on-the-rise Chad Michael Murray, who stars opposite Nicolas Cage in “Left Behind,” and Alexandra Breckenridge (“Other People’s Children”).

Currently, a multi-territory deal for the U.K., Eastern Europe, Brazil, South Africa, India, Indonesia and Portugal is pending announcement. A separate deal for German-speaking rights will also be announced. »

Get ready for underworld thrills that are gritty, gripping and always intense! On August 12th, Anchor Bay Entertainment releases AMC's powerful original series Low Winter Sun on DVD. Available as a 3-disc set, Low Winter Sun: The Complete Series contains all 10 episodes from the series the New York Post says, "grabs you by the lapels and pulls you - forcefully - right into its seamy, low-rent worlds of intrigue and double-and triple-crosses." This release also contains plenty of insightful bonus features about the making of the show including behind-the-scenes footage, deleted scenes and making-of featurettes.

Based on the 2006 award-winning British two-part mini-series of the same name, written by Simon Donald and produced by Tiger Aspect Productions (an Endemol Company), Low Winter Sun: The Complete Series is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. Eva Longoria Joins Blumhouse Horror ‘Visions’

13 February 2014 3:05 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

The producers behind Paranormal Activity and Insidious are back with another horror pic Visions. With big names such as Isla Fisher, Anson Mount, Community‘s Gillian Jacobs and The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons already attached, Visions can boast in acquiring another famous TV name to its cast; Eva Longoria.

Visions follows the story of a pregnant woman (played by Isla Fisher) who moves to the countryside with her husband where she becomes plagued by visions of a sinister hooded figure. This is already giving me the creeps! Longoria is set to star as Fisher’s chic and fashionable friend, who disapproves of Fisher’s life choices.

Scripted by Lucas Sussman and directed by Saw IV’s Kevin Gruetert, the movie will be distributed by Universal and introduced by Blumhouse International at the Berlin Film Festival.
