A physics system so bad you'll love just sitting around with friends exploiting it
22 August 2014 | by (Valhalla) – See all my reviews

I haven't finished this game but I did get through enough of it to reach the last level and through that I found that the story is a lot like you're playing as a Spanish James Bond. In terms of Open World games though this does have the largest map I have seen but I really think they should have included variety in it.

The plot, Rico Rodriguez is sent by... "Agency" to assassinate a dictator and bring peace to the country of San Esperito. You do certain tasks to weaken his power and eventually kill him.

The physics system is probably the most laughable I have ever seen in a video game. If you find a plane and take it, then jump out over water... if there's no ground about 20 or 30 meters below the water you won't get hurt. AGAIN, jump into water from ANY height and you live. However, jump out 20 meter above ground and you die. This kind of stuff is fun to exploit.

Now with open-world games the thing most people do is cause as much carnage as possible. Here you have boats and cars with missile launchers and machine guns and you have law enforcement and military flying at you. You can get all the guns and all the ammo in the world and guaranteed you can empty out all of them except your 2 guns, which somehow doesn't have an ammo limit. These cops will never stop coming because I spent about three hours seeing cops come, me shooting them all, collecting health power-ups and rinse and repeat. This gives you something to do but it's so repetitive that you just take one of their cars and leave.

Speaking of this world is just forest and road, and forest and road, forest, road, road, forest, maybe a city no larger than your average-sized park or village and water. This has to be the most boring open-world I have seen. It will literally take you 20 seconds to drive through a city and even though this is a map advertised as being "1025kms" about 5 of them is anything other than just roads or grass and trees.

In the last level though, the reason why I haven't finished that is it has one of the most unexpected difficulty spikes I have ever seen in a game. it's like "ooh, we'll just have helicopters shoot at you, and this time they'll hit" (That's another thing enemies can empty all their ammo only hitting you once or twice) it's almost Mafia: City Of Lost Heaven hard. If it was that hard to begin with - THAT'S FINE! but to unexpectedly do it to laugh at the player, is annoying as f#ck.

The best thing about this game is the bad physics system. Call this my "so ad it's good" game. I will play the sequel because that at least looks like I won't be spending hours on the roads to a forest and the gadgets and cars, planes, motorbikes whatever - all are pretty good and the controls, well you press "B" instead of "A" to jump but aside from that it's fine. I will play the sequel because that's the one people remember and that's also the one many people considered "one of the best open-world experiences of all time". If you want to feel like James Bond... aside from playing Nightfire or Everything or Nothing, then get this game.
