The 48 Hour Film Festival is based on an actual Whistler event that is held every spring. The main differences between the fictional contest and the real contest is that the films can be up to five minutes and the film makers have 72 hours to submit their works. The 2007 version of the real Film Festival was held one week after the fictional one on Whistler was filmed in Langley, B.C.
