Mercy backfires

Warning: Spoilers
This is a 13-minute, award-winning German short film written and directed by Lars Henning. And while the director has not had a very successful career in the last years, the film's produced did. The man is Veit Helmer, who made Tuvalu, Absurdistan and couple more films that should at least be known to German cinephiles. While the lead actress in "Security", Suzanna Roskosny, is pretty much unknown, Peter Kurth, the lead actor, has been in a couple known German movies, including "Goodbye Lenin". And you could certainly see his talent as he also did a fine job here. I felt for the character. He plays a security guard who catches a young woman stealing in his department store. He lets her go without consequence after she gives back the item, but also tells her that he does not want to see her again in the store. When she reappears a couple days later, he catches her again red-handed. Instead of being a true professional and causing her serious consequences, he decides to do something against his loneliness and invite her to dinner. How will she react? I personally hoped for a happier ending, but it's fine. Realism wins here and a plot twist will surprise you. Good short movie from almost 10 years ago. Recommended.

Simple story, nice twist, good acting. A security agent in a supermaket. A thief. His compassion. The same thief and his proposition. And the twist. A good film first for the job of Peter kurth, giving a rich story to the imagination of the viewer.
