  • Clark is thrilled when he learns that his friend, Raya, managed to escape from the Phantom Zone and has come to see him in Smallville. The two grow close and Raya shows Clark how to restore power to the Fortress of Solitude. However, Baern, the spirit of a killer with the ability to control and feed off electricity, also has escaped from the Phantom Zone. After possessing the body of a street kid in Oakland, California, Baern makes his way to Smallville to take revenge on both Raya and Clark for his imprisonment. Meanwhile, Lana gathers more information about Lex's research project called ROCK. Also, Jimmy Olson returns to try to win back Chloe's affections by tailing Lana to find any dirt on Lex Luthor.

  • Clark wasn't the only one to fall out of the Phantom Zone onto Earth. One of them, named Baern, holds a grudge against Clark and is out to settle scores him even though Raya finds Clark first. She talks about Jor-El and the destiny he had envisaged for his son. Meanwhile Lana gathers more information about what Lex is not telling her about the "ROCK" project. Baern confronts Clark and Raya, but flees only to energize himself with radioactive material and what better source of it than Zod's Rock. Only Clark can stop him now with a final showdown at the fortress.

  • In Oakland, California, the friends Lamar Johnson and Yance see something falling down from the space on a railroad yard and Johnson gets close and is possessed by the dangerous phantom Baern. Along six weeks, he travels through the USA in a straight line of destruction to Kansas, feeding of radioactive energy and seeking Kal-El. Meanwhile Clark is visited by Raya, who tells him about Jor-El and his legacy on Earth.
