Paramount Remaking ‘The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance’

30 September 2015 5:41 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Paramount Pictures is developing a remake of the classic John Wayne-James Stewart Western “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.”

Matt Jackson, the president of production at Im Global, is producing the remake. The project may be set in a relatively contemporary period, such as 1980s Western Pennsylvania amid the retrenchment of the steel and auto industries, but no decision has been made.

The studio has been seeking a writer for the remake. Terence Winter, whose credits include “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Boardwalk Empire” and “The Sopranos,” had earlier been attached to “Liberty Valance” but is no longer involved.

The original film starred Stewart as a newly arrived lawyer and Wayne as a cowboy who team up to kill the outlaw leader Liberty Valance (played by Lee Marvin), who has been terrorizing a frontier town. The black and white film was directed by John Ford and released by Paramount in 1962.

20th Century Fox

Dwayne Johnson’s always had presence, even from his earliest days on WWE. His immense physical stature, playfulness and natural charisma marked him out as both a fantastic entertainer and powerful athlete. He harbours extreme warmth underneath his phenomenal physique, a quality upon which he’s built a huge fan-base.

After a false start with 2001’s The Mummy Returns, Johnson’s ascension up the Hollywood ranks has been sustained by a selection of diverse choices, including 2003’s underrated actioner The Rundown and 2008’s spy caper Get Smart. Things came to a head in 2013, where the combination of Fast 6, Pain & Gain, G.I Joe: Retaliation and Snitch rendered him the most successful movie-star that year at the box-office. Since then, the hits have kept coming, including Furious 7 and this summer’s San Andreas.

Cannes Market: Nigel Sinclair On New Start, Lessons Learned From Exclusive Exit (Exclusive)

17 May 2015 7:56 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

When Guy East and Nigel Sinclair launched their new company, White Horse Pictures, just one year ago ahead of the Cannes Film Festival, it was a more modest iteration of the successful partnership they ran for years at Exclusive Media. That international sales and financing company, which they founded, was behind such hits as “Snitch,” “The Woman in Black” and “End of Watch” but also the money-losing “Rush.” Now working as producers rather than financiers, Sinclair sat down exclusively with TheWrap’s Sharon Waxman at the Studio Canal offices overlooking the port at the festival to look ahead at an upcoming. »

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau Takes Aim At Shot Caller

24 April 2015 7:02 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Usually found wandering the castle hallways and landscapes of Westeros for Game Of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is making one of his regular movie stops, making a deal to star in the new crime thriller Shot Caller. And yes, while we often use that term to describe the director, this time it’s just the title of the film, which finds Coster-Waldau as a gangster freshly released from the slammer who is “encouraged” (read: ordered) to pull off a major, violent crime with a rival gang on the streets of Southern California. There is, however a director attached, with Snitch’s Ric Roman Waugh, who is busy rounding up the rest of the cast with an eye to start shooting in New Mexico at the end of next month. Bold Films is behind this one, with Relativity Studios agreeing to take on distribution for the finished product. Coster-Waldau is at work »
