Warning: Spoilers
"Desperate Men," which first aired on 1 June 1959, is clear evidence that Highway Patrol kept its quality intact. It concerns two criminals who go into a hospital boiler room, take a hostage, and threaten to destroy the facility from within.

Former "Dead End" kid Billy Halop takes center stage as one of the criminals, and plays his role as someone who's clearly unsympathetic. He's no antihero. Mr. Halop plays this as a hardened sociopath who acts with no regards for others. He and his partner are two people you truly hate here.

As the title says, this first aired on the day that I was born in Troy, New York. In general, Highway Patrol is a well-crafted series that shows that one can tell a tale in less than 30 minutes (if you count the commercials). I discovered this series in 2020, though I heard of it from a while back. One person this show shares with Dragnet and Adam-12 is the late William Boyett, always a welcome presence.

And Broderick Crawford! His presence is simply amazing, and his rapid-fire delivery may well put Jack Webb to shame.

Overall, a fine show. I'm hooked!
