Julia Roberts Will Finally Get A Real Job In 'Second Act'

1 December 2011 6:02 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Do North American audiences care about Julia Roberts anymore? The last time Roberts starred in a movie that cracked $100 million dollars domestic that wasn't a franchise or cameo appearance was over 10 years ago in "Erin Brokovich." Yes, "Eat Pray Love" did solid business, but it did much better overseas. And all you have to do is look at the tepid reception of this summer's "Larry Crowne" -- featuring a seemingly one-two punch pairing of Roberts and Tom Hanks -- to realize that the actress' glory days are long behind her. She'll try playing a baddie of sorts next spring in Tarsem's ridiculous looking "Mirror Mirror," but she's developing another movie that she hopes will get her back in the good graces of fans. »

Julia Roberts to Produce and Star in Workplace Comedy Second Act

30 November 2011 6:30 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Julia Roberts is attached to star in Second Act, a workplace comedy set up at New Regency.  According to THR, the plot centers on "a woman who has never worked and is forced to to take a job."  The project is still searching for a writer and director; Roberts will produce alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Trudie Styler, and Celine Rattray. After a solid hit in 2010 with Eat Pray Love, Roberts is coming off the critical and commercial failure Larry Crowne, and heading into the very risky territory of the fairy tale farce Mirror, Mirror (the first trailer induces shudders).  The logline for Second Act isn't especially promising, but that famous smile can work wonders with a simple premise.  In the coming weeks, we'll see if this becomes Roberts' next movie.  Roberts is also attached to August: Osage County with Meryl Streep and another collaboration with Eat Pray Love director Ryan Murphy, »

Boy, oh, boy, has this been a great couple of weeks for trailer debuts! First, Kristen Stewart kicked some butt in her "Snow White and the Huntsman" clip, then we finally saw Katniss, Gale and Peeta preparing for battle in "The Hunger Games," and now we get our first look at Tarsem's take on Snow White, "Mirror Mirror."

Even better, now that we have seen both trailers for the two upcoming Snow White-themed flicks, it is much easier to tell them apart, as "Huntsman" is clearly more of an action/drama, while "Mirror" is action/comedy. Here's a look at five key elements that make "Mirror Mirror" worth some extra reflection:

Watch: Full Trailer For 'The Hunger Games' Is Mostly Convincing

14 November 2011 6:25 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If a trailer's going to bow on "Good Morning America," it feels like you're safe in making some assumptions on the content of that trailer. Something frothy, we would imagine, in the vein of "New Year's Eve" or "Eat Pray Love," perhaps. At the very most, something from the latest Disney film, bearing in mind that ABC is a subsidiary of Disney. Not on our shortlist? A violent, dystopian sci-fi film about children made to fight each other to the death for the benefit of the general public.  »

Pitt 'To Retire At 50'

14 November 2011 12:01 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Brad Pitt has vowed to stop acting by the age of 50 so he can focus on producing films.

The 47 year old made the revelation on Australian talk show 60 Minutes when he was asked how long he plans to carry on starring in movies. He replied, "Three years."

Pitt went on to detail his future career plans, adding, "I've really enjoyed the producerial side and getting stories to the plate that may have had a harder time otherwise."

In a new interview with The Sunday Times' Culture magazine, Pitt expands on how he sees his future, adding, "We all have a shelf life, and mine is coming - although there are a couple of things I'd still like to do. I am looking forward to playing a foul-mouthed grumpy old dude one day, that's for sure."

Pitt has several producing credits to his name, including The Time Traveler's Wife, Julia Roberts' movie Eat Pray Love, and this year's The Tree of Life, which the actor also starred in. »

David Schwimmer In Talks for ‘The Iceman’; Maggie Gyllenhaal and Ray Liotta Attached

9 November 2011 7:51 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

When we learned that James Franco wouldn’t take a major role in Ariel Vromen‘s The Iceman, the film quickly became an unsure prospect. Any project losing what’s arguably its biggest actor is always a considerable blow, especially on a smaller one such as this. I even began to worry that this film — which I found myself interested in more and more as time went on — wouldn’t ever go before cameras.

This isn’t a story about a replacement being found, but it’s a sign that things are still happening nonetheless. According to Variety, Friends actor David Schwimmer is in talks to sign on in the role of Josh Rosenthal, an employee for mobster Roy Demeo, played by Ray Liotta. Rosenthal sees Demeo as “a father figure and will do almost anything to impress him.” And by “do almost anything,” they probably mean “will kill almost anybody. »

Nicole's Perpetual Elephant Love Medley

3 November 2011 9:15 AM, PDT | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

As if Nicole Kidman hadn't done enough for the mystique of elephants! Ten years ago in Moulin Rouge! (see previous posts) she famously lived, loved, and playfully sang on top of a giant bejewelled 'phant. Now she'll be interacting with the real thing on the silver screen. In early 2012 she'll be heading to Africa to film My Wild Life, a drama about the work of elephants advocate and conservationist Dame Daphne Sheldrick. Phillip Noyce (Salt, The Quiet American) will direct. Sheldrick's autobiography will be published in the spring and by this time next year (or thereabouts), if all goes according to plan, we'll see Nicole Kidman reenacting her adventures just in time for next year's Oscar race.

We assume that the bulk of the film will take place between 1955 and 1976 when Sheldrick (who was in her 20s and 30s at the time) and her husband were the co-wardens of Kenya's Tsavo National Park. »

What do James Bond and Chicken Little have in common? Apparently, they both have a belief that the sky is falling. After near bankruptcy threatened the James Bond franchise, 007 is back in action with the 23rd movie being titled Skyfall. The film, which brings Daniel Craig back in the role of modern-day Bond, starts production on Nov. 7 with plans to open in theaters in the U.S. on Nov. 9, 2012. It will open in the U.K. and Ireland Oct. 26, 2012.

Skyfall will try Bond's loyalty to M (Judi Dench) as "her past comes back to haunt her." This Bond is bringing the gold. Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes (Away We Go) will direct and Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem (Eat Pray Love) will play the villain. Other actors cast include two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes (better known as Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies), 5-time Oscar nominee Albert Finney (Corpse Bride) as »

Hey, it’s Eat Pray Love for guys! Except the guys are such simpletons there has to be one guy to eat, one guy to pray, and one guy to love. Or something. Still, wacky fun! Bet Steve Martin, Owen Wilson, and Jack Black don’t get accused of being selfish bastards for grabbing some alone time. Of course they won’t: they’re having their alone time together! Javier Bardem Brings Villainy to 'Despicable Me 2'

5 October 2011 9:55 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Javier Bardem is about to get animated -- for the first time!

The "Eat Pray Love" star will indulge his evil side as he prepares to voice the main villain of "Despicable Me 2," the sequel to the 2010 tale of, well, villainy, according to Heat Vision.

Bardem is no stranger to bad guy roles, having played them to brilliant effect in films such as "Collateral" and "No Country For Old Men" (for which he won an Oscar), but "Despicable Me 2" marks the actor's first role, evil or otherwise, in an animated film.

Bardem will be playing the role of El Macho (who also has a son, named Machito). Details on the plot of the sequel are being kept under wraps, but most of the original voice cast is expected to return, including Steve Carell as Gru, the criminal mastermind whose hard heart was softened by a trio of orphans.
