Box Office Takeaways: ‘Logan’ Is R-Rated Marvel As ‘Get Out’ Also Roars

5 March 2017 1:26 PM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The lagging 2017 box office got a big boost as “Logan” (20th Century Fox), starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine — the first of three anticipated March juggernauts — opened like a summer franchise blockbuster. The offshoot from the “Wolverine” subset of X-Men movies marks the first R-rating for the storied franchise.

Even better, it wasn’t the only upbeat news this post-Oscars weekend. Hitchcockian thriller “Get Out” (Universal), the Blumhouse sleeper from Jordan Peele, dropped only  22 per cent on its second weekend, which is stunning.

And Lionsgate, fresh off eight wins from “La La Land” and “Hacksaw Ridge” on Oscar night, returned with the surprisingly strong faith-based “The Shack,” starring “Hidden Figures” Oscar-nominee and Saturday Night Live host Octavia Spencer.

The post-Oscar results were mixed to positive, as two of the top category winners are already available for home viewing. “Moonlight” (streaming and available on DVD/Blu-Ray) had both the widest break »

Gff 2017: Halfway Review

28 February 2017 7:35 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Steven Neish

Recently released from prison, Byron (Quinton Aaron) has secured a probationary placement at his step-brother’s family farm. Working for widower Beth (Amy Pietz) and her two daughters, Eliza (Gillian Zinser) and Julia (Nicole Scimeca), Byron has something of a rude awakening when he realises just how much work is involved in a farm’s day-to-day operations. His sponsor Josh, a lawyer, isn’t around much, so it’s left to a skeptical and overworked Beth to show him the ropes. Meanwhile, Paulie (Marcus Henderson), Byron’s friend from prison, tempts him with an easier and eminently more appealing alternative.

From first-time writer-director Ben Caird, a British-American brought up in London, Halfway has similarly spent time being developed on both sides of the Atlantic. Originally envisioned as the story of a UK national transplanted to the States for rehabilitation, the script evolved over time to focus more »

9 Oscars Winners Who Don't Hold Up to the Test of Time

24 February 2017 2:05 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Just because a movie or a celebrity wins an Oscar, that doesn't mean the win was deserved. While the Academy Awards are seen as the capstone to awards season -- and one of the highest honors in the business -- we all know that stars and movies get snubbed or overlooked all the time.

What's worse is when we look back at what did win, and shake our heads in confusion and disbelief. So, with the 89th Academy Awards just around the corner, let's take a look back over the show's illustrious history at a few times the Academy voters clearly made a mistake.

Tom Brady, Malcolm Butler Having Movies Made About Them

16 February 2017 2:10 PM, PST | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

Box Offices in New England are going to be booming soon, as two New England Patriots stars are getting the Hollywood treatment.  Come inside for more!

Tom Brady and Malcolm Butler.  Two incredible, immortal figures in NFL history are getting their stories put on the big screen.  Everyone, even those unfamiliar with football, knows who Tom Brady is.  Whether its from various movies, commercials, or the Deflategate debacle, he's pretty much a household name.

As for Malcolm Butler, he may be a guy you're less familiar with.  An undrafted free agent from the University of West Alabama, a school not known for developing NFL stars, becomes a hero of an entire region when he intercepted Seattle Seahawks Qb Russell Wilson to clinch the win for the New England Patriots in Super Bowl Xlix.  Long before that moment, he worked at a Popeye's hoping he'd get a shot at the NFL. »

‘The Founder’ Review

15 February 2017 4:01 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Michael Keaton, Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini, B.J. Novak, Justin Randell Brooke, Kate Kneeland, Patrick Wilson | Written by Robert D. Siegel | Directed by John Lee Hancock

Is there a more American director working in film than John Lee Hancock? He’s covered the Alamo; yanked Republican heartstrings in The Blind Side; and in Saving Mr. Banks he went to Disney World. Now he turns his attention to another great American institution: McDonald’s.

Michael Keaton, employing every tic and smirk at his disposal, plays Ray Kroc, a struggling salesman scouring the Midwest, desperate to offload his milkshake multi-mixers. Disillusioned by bad service and lengthy wait times, he happens upon a highly successful burger joint run by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald (Nick Offerman and John Carroll Lynch). Through years of planning and experience they have perfected a system of fast food before it’s even a thing. »

Second Opinion – The Founder (2016)

15 February 2017 3:30 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The Founder, 2016.

Directed by John Lee Hancock.

Starring Michael Keaton, Nick Offerman, John Carroll Lynch, Laura Dern, Linda Cardellini and Patrick Wilson.

Synopsis:

Salesman Ray Kroc discovers a burger restaurant in California that has revolutionised serving fast food and decides it has the potential to be something much bigger.  The biggest fast food chain in the world.

On the face of it, John Lee Hancock’s The Founder had awards bait written all over it.  Backed by The Weinstein Company, it was released at the right time to be considered, it had John Lee Hancock (Saving Mr Banks, The Blind Side) at the helm and, perhaps best of all, Michael Keaton at the top of the cast list.  All the ingredients were there – apart, of course, from the regulation two slices of pickle, equal squirts of ketchup and mustard and a standard size McDonald’s burger.

So what happened?  Reports »
