While Dexter and Rudy are sitting around the table, Rudy drinks a beer which has a skull logo on it. The brand of the beer is "Jekyll Island," which refers to the 1886 horror novel "Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Rudy can be seen drinking the fictional 'Jekyll Island Lager'. The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde written by Robert Louis Stevenson is a novella about a lawyer investigating the strange incidents between his friend Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde. This work is often associated with the 'split personality' disorder; wherein several personalities exist within the same body, in the case of Jekyll and Hyde there is one good and one evil personality. Therefore the term 'Jekyll and Hyde' refers to someone who has a changeable moral standard from one situation to the next. This is a reference both to Dexter's Dark Passenger living within him and the moral polarity of the brothers.
Contrary to how Brian is killed by Dexter, the novel has LaGuerta confronting Dexter and Brian in the shipping container. Ultimately, ending with Brian shooting LaGuerta and being allowed to escape by Dexter. Unlike later in the TV series, Deb shows little to no pity for her death.
