Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 7 Review: Mirror Image

30 November 2016 9:16 PM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Finally, the spotlight shines on Dr. Tara Lewis, the criminally underused member of the Bau.

Not only do we get to learn more about Lewis on Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 7, but the season's on-and-off storyline about the escaped serial killers is on again, with Mr. Scratch front and center.

And his whole plan hinges on some long-simmering family drama.

The episode starts innocently enough, with Lewis, who's been missing for a few episodes already this season, asking for the day off.

But then Garcia whips out her inner profiler for Prentiss, explaining that Lewis's deep, dark secret is that she's estranged from her younger, equally brilliant brother Gabriel, who has thrown his life away on get-rich-quick schemes.

And Lewis admits that Gabriel, who seemingly wasted the chance for a full ride to Yale, has disappointed her.

When it comes to my brother, hostility and dismissal are my specialty.

Sliff 2016 – Jerry Lewis Double Feature November 12th

7 November 2016 4:30 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

“Here y’are, baby. Take this, wipe the lipstick off, slide over here next to me, and let’s get started.”

The Nutty Professor  will screen double feature with Jerry Lewis, The Man Behind The Clown will screen Saturday Nov 12th at 1pm at Webster University’s Moore Auditorium (470 East Lockwood) as part of this year’s St. Louis International Film Festival. This event is Free

Since his earliest days, Sliff Lifetime Achievement Award honoree Jerry Lewis had the masses laughing with his visual gags, pantomime sketches, and signature slapstick humor. But Lewis was far more than just a funny performer. After his breakup with partner Dean Martin, he moved behind the camera, writing, producing, and directing many of the adored classics in which he starred. In this double bill, Gregory Monro’s brisk, informative documentary reveals the man behind the clown, and The Nutty Professor provides the proof of Lewis’ comic genius. »

American Horror Story season 6: Roanoke Chapter 8 review

Ron Hogan Nov 7, 2016

It's all about ratings in the latest episode of American Horror Story Roanoke. Here's our spoiler-filled review...

This review contains spoilers.

See related  Marvel Studios: how long is left on everyone’s contracts?

Three women kidnapped and terrorised by a gang of incestuous, cannibal, pot-farming hillbillies. It's one of the classic horror plots, going back to Hg Lewis's 2000 Maniacs to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and beyond. Out-of-town folks wander somewhere they don't belong and become a screaming buffet table. Given the presence of the Polks in the reenactments, it's only natural that they reappear in the real version of the story, with some delicious Hollywood actresses to turn into fear-tangy jerky.

On one hand, you've got the women in the Polk compound and on the other hand, you have Dominic and Shelby on the run from various vengeful ghosts in the Roanoke house. The »

Jill Soloway Aims to Topple the Showbiz Patriarchy With ‘I Love Dick,’ ‘Transparent’

14 September 2016 9:45 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

There’s a handwritten list of rules on the whiteboard in Jill Soloway’s production office on the Paramount lot.

That there are rules at all in her workspace seems antithetical to her famously subversive nature — but on closer inspection, they convey her creative spirit ever so delightfully: “Be chill.” “Demand inclusion.” “Shift the gaze.” That last directive refers to what’s become her mantra: embracing the female gaze — telling, creating, celebrating stories from a woman’s perspective.

“I think so much of what women first realize when they start to make work is how much of their life they have spent being gazed at, and being used by male protagonists for male storylines,” says Soloway, showrunner and executive producer of Amazon’s “Transparent.” “It’s never on purpose; nobody’s trying to hurt anybody.” But, as she explains, women are often used to drive the narrative. “You become the good girl or the bad girl or »

Snatch is getting a TV remake, starring Rupert Grint

Rob Leane Aug 23, 2016

Guy Ritchie's Jason Statham and Brad Pitt-starring film Snatch is heading to TV. Rupert Grint will star...

Guy Ritchie's 2000 movie Snatch is the latest film to get a TV remake. (We'll add it to our list of movie-to-tv projects in due course.) The original film, of course, starred the legendary Jason Statham alongside a bloke named Brad Pitt

Collider reports that the TV take on Snatch will star Harry Potter's Ron Weasley actor Rupert Grint. He'll play Charlie Cavendish, who's been described as “dynamic, frustratingly chaotic, and utterly posh.”

Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II, Taken 3, Fear The Walking Dead) is attached to play Vic Hill. Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl has signed up to portray Sonny Castillo. Fans of the film will notice that these are brand new characters names, not recastings of the old crew.

Here's the synopsis, which, again, isn't »

Spooky and magical kids' TV dramas of the 1980s: 1985-89

16 August 2016 9:59 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Alex Westthorp Sep 19, 2016

We revisit Tom's Midnight Garden, Moondial, The Chronicles Of Narnia and a few lesser-known UK children's TV series...

Read our look-back at UK kids' fantasy dramas 1980 - 1984 here.

By 1985 British TV's children's drama had really hit its stride, achieving "a balanced diet of programmes" as Edward Barnes, the head of the BBC children's department observed. The late 80s, arguably, saw a new golden age for spooky and magical kids drama. Excellent production values, improved significantly by well-honed special effects work using Quantel, Paintbox and Harry, and moreover some interesting casting - often of very talented newcomers - produced some of the most memorable dramas of the era.

The second half of the decade saw the BBC riding high on the back of the success of their state-of-the-art adaptation of John Masefield's Box Of Delights. Meanwhile, anthology series Dramarama was going from strength to strength on ITV. »

Den Of Geek wheels in the big telly for a fond look back at pigeon crime Look And Read schools series, Geordie Racer…

“Spuggy and Plod weren’t runners. They just didn’t see the point”. And thus the hero of the BBC's Geordie Racer and his dog were endeared to a generation of biscuit-eating 1980s schoolchildren.

Part of the long-running Look And Read series of television programming for schools, Geordie Racer was written by The Bill’s Christopher Russell and first aired in 1988. Its ten episodes told a continuing crime story interspersed with factual spots about the North-East and appearances by Wordy, a floating Henry Hoover/Scrabble set who played songs about gerunds. Wordy was just part of Geordie Racer’s educational framing narrative though, Spuggy was its star.

Terence Davies Talks ‘Sunset Song,’ Being Drawn to Hardship, and the Simplicity of Great Stories

12 May 2016 12:07 PM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Terence Davies’ films deal with repressed desire, longing, and emotional pain that springs from the depths of his characters’ souls, and yet, in person, the great British auteur is undoubtedly the funniest person in the room. He is all smiles and jokes as we sit down to discuss his glorious Sunset Song, entering a limited release this week, and a retrospective of his work at the Museum of the Moving Image. It makes sense that he is joyful rather than somber, because it makes one feel a sort of relief knowing that levity was welcomed between takes on haunting dramas such as Distant Voices, Still Lives and The Deep Blue Sea. In Sunset Song, Davies takes on the first part of a trilogy written by Lewis Grassic Gibbons, in which we meet farm girl Chris Guthrie (a luminous Agyness Deyn) as she is forced to take on the reins of her life in pre-wwi Scotland. »
