Storyline

There is a troublesome rat in the kitchen of the farmhouse, and Emil decides the best place for the trap is under the kitchen table. Unfortunately it is his father's toe that gets caught in it. To cheer up his father and make him forget his sore toe, Emil shows him the big bowl with the blood pudding that's for dinner that day. However, the contents of the bowl gets spilled over his father's head, and the mood is not improved. When a little later the bowl with the foodstuffs for the replacement dinner is also spilled, because Emil and his sister are running around the house and trip up the maid, Emil runs out to the tool-shed and locks himself in before his irate father can get near him. Emil decides that he will spend the rest of his life in the shed, carving more wooden figures for his growing collection. However, this decision is short lived and when Alfred invites him to come to the pond for a swim on this beautiful summer evening he can't resist and joins him.
