Helen Mirren to Sort of Guest Star on Glee

22 December 2011 5:12 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Give Glee credit for guest star diversity...

Following the announcement that Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member NeNe Leakes will appear on the Fox hit next month as a synchronized swimming coach, TV Line now confirms that an Oscar winner will also make a cameo on the January 17 episode. Sort of.

Look for Helen Mirren to provide the “inner voice” of an unknown character, network sources say. She will be responsible for a few "long and hilarious monologues" at various points in the installment.

Whose thoughts could possibly be relayed by the voice of an older British woman? No student or teacher comes to mind, that's for certain.

Elsewhere, it's now also been confirmed that Ricky Martin will guest star on an early 2012 episode. The singer will portray a Spanish teacher. »

Tonight on The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Law by Sheree

Tonight on The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Law by Sheree

Instead of "who gonna check me, boo?", I think it's more like "who gonna give me a check, boo?".

As you might have guessed, tonight's episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta shines the spotlight on Sheree Whitfield, O.G. cast member, entrepreneur, actress, and mother of three, as she heads to court to deal with her child support case. Last week's chat with her mom seems to have done the trick and helped Sheree decide to follow through this time, with Ultimate Southern Belle (Tm) Phaedra along to represent her. In the third video below, we get a peek inside the Atlanta courtroom that saw their case, with Bob representing himself and dropping a surprise on the dynamic duo in the form of a petition for contempt. It took a lot for Sheree to even get this far, »

Is 3D getting better, and what does it add to the movie watching experience?

5 December 2011 3:39 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

As Hugo aims to enchant audiences with a 3D story about the birth of cinema, Mark wonders whether 3D’s improving, and exactly what it adds to our experience…

Please note: there's a slight spoiler for Joe Dante's The Hole a bit further down. It's clearly marked.

Last week saw the UK release of Hugo, and if you weren't expecting a 3D family film from Martin Scorsese, you might be even more surprised to hear that his film boasts the most adept use of Real-D 3D since the resurgence of stereoscopy in the cinema.

Hugo, which is possessed with a love of early cinema that is as accessible for young children as it is for hardened film buffs, actually finds a thematic use for 3D. It directly recalls the first audience who saw the Lumière brothers' Arrival Of A Train At La Ciotat. They reportedly ran away from the screen, »

Ratings: On a Steady Sunday, Housewives, Pan Am and CSI: Miami Post Gains

14 November 2011 9:22 AM, PST | TVLine.com | See recent TVLine.com news »

On a Sunday night where most every show was exactly at or a hair below its week-prior demo rating, ABC’s Desperate Housewives and Pan Am and CBS’ CSI: Miami posted the biggest percent gains.

Leading out of the rock-steady Once Upon a Time (11.33 mil/3.8), which again topped all of Sunday’s scripted fare in the 18-49 demo, Housewives drew 9.22 million total viewers and a 3.0 rating, up 5 and 7 percent, respectively.

Bubble show Pan Am then retained 5.7 mil and 1.8 of that, up 10 and 6 percent and enjoying its largest audience in three weeks.

Opposite Pan Am, CSI: Miami copped 9.8 million viewers and a 2.1 rating, »

Hawaii Five-0 Review: A Fist for Fryer

18 October 2011 2:05 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Ma’ema’e: Clean

All our questions about Kono were answered this week as we finally learned if she was "Ma'ema'e" or had truly fallen from grace.

For all of us who weren't fans of the "Evil Kono" storyline, it was a pleasure to watch it conclude via a nice and tidy resolution, which included a well-earned punch in the mouth for Captain Fryer.

Additionally, as promised, I want to give a special nod to TV Fanatic reader Symph2001 who called that Kono was working undercover for Fryer. Well spotted, Symph2001!

From all the discussion in the last few episodes, I wasn’t surprised when Fryer walked in to the interrogation room to get Kono. However, I was surprised that Steve hadn’t bothered to check on Kono in weeks. Only Chin Ho had really been trying to reach out to her. Steve, it’s a bit of the pot »

The Vampire Diaries Review: The Nick of Time

29 September 2011 7:42 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

I'm not sure who I feel worse for after watching "The End of the Affair." Elena, Caroline or Klaus?

Okay, it's definitely Elena. The man she loves and would chase to the end of the world has told her to leave him alone; her mere existence is all that stands between relative peace and an army of Hybrids; and viewers even learned that the only reason Stefan fell for her may have been because he was forced to forget the woman who could truly be his soulmate.

Still, we learned a lot about Klaus this week and the intel painted a picture of a tortured, lonely, scared Original who hasn't been killing merely for the sake of killing.

Klaus is petrified. He's been on the run for centuries. He's been under orders to create Hybrids and I'm guessing it's not for his own personal army. Does that excuse all of his murderous behavior? »

Close up: Sean Penn baffled by Malick's Tree of Life

25 August 2011 10:18 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Tree of Life actor says he was trying to figure out what role he played in Terrence Malick's Palme d'Or-winning film, while Christian Bale signs on for a new Malick project

The big story

"Mother ... Father ... Always you wrestle inside of me. Always you will. Oh ... and what's going on again?"

This week it emerged that Sean Penn seems to have been as mystified by The Tree of Life as the rest of us. "The screenplay is the most magnificent one that I've ever read but I couldn't find that same emotion on screen," said the actor of Terrence Malick's graceful meditation on the meaning of life / unnaturally long ode to self-involvement.

"A clearer and more conventional narrative would have helped the film without, in my opinion, lessening its beauty and its impact," said Penn. "Frankly, I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing there and what »

Did Disney Deny Us a $200 Million Lone Ranger vs. Werewolves Flick?

14 August 2011 12:30 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Just the other night word broke that Disney has pulled the plug on The Lone Ranger due to the budget skyrocketing upwards of $200 million. If that price tag doesn’t sound crazy enough to you, what if I told you the premise would have seen the Lone Ranger and Tonto fighting werewolves in the Old West?

For those of you unaware, The Lone Ranger was scheduled to be Disney’s tentpole blockbuster for Christmas 2012. Jerry Bruckheimer, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, Gore Verbinski, and Johnny Depp (aka the producer, writers, director, and star of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies) were the creative forces behind the relaunch of the iconic masked crimefighting cowboy. Depp was slated to play the Lone Ranger’s Native American sidekick, Tonto, not the Lone Ranger himself; the title role was going to rising star Armie Hammer, whom you may recall for his dual role as »

The Vampire Diaries to Flash Back, Cool Off on Season Three

29 July 2011 11:13 AM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Vampire Diaries scoop is coming fast and furiously these days.

Aside from our revealing interviews with various cast members - Nina Dobrev! Paul Wesley! Joseph Morgan! - we can confirm that a new villain will make his way into town before season three is through.

But, don't worry Klaus fans, there's plenty more to come about this blood sucker and his family first.

“We get a chance to go back and see the point where they became vampires and where the curse was placed on Klaus to suppress his hybrid nature, his hybrid side,” Morgan told us at his Comic-Con round table. “It’ll be interesting when we introduce other originals who are possibly equally as powerful or have some sort of emotional hold over Klaus... to see what that brings out of him.”

Here's all of the "50/50" poster with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen

13 July 2011 8:19 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

A few weeks ago we brought you the trailer for "50/50" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen. Now we've got the debut of the film's one-sheet. Take a look.

The film, directed by "The Wackness"' Jonathan Levine, stars Gordon-Levitt as Adam, a twentysomething guy fighting cancer with the help of his friend (Rogen), therapist (Anna Kendrick), and girlfriend (Bryce Dallas Howard). It's based on screenwriter Will Reiser's real-life struggle with cancer. And it's a comedy!

One extra note here. In his post about this poster on his blog Hollywood Elsewhere, Jeffrey Wells says "the apparent marketing plan, to go by the one-sheet, is to basically reveal -- i.e., spoil -- the third-act resolution in order not to discourage business." I could be wrong, but I'm assuming he's referring to the poster's tagline -- "It takes a pair to beat the odds" -- and in some small way, yes, »

"The Real L Word" recap: Episode 203

Previously: Kelsey was still pestering Romi for sex, but the only wet on her whistle was from the vodka at Haute. Sajdah's straight friend Marissa got a whiff of lesbian life when she learned how much Sajdah loves the scent of Chanel after only two dates. Cori and Kacy resigned themselves to using a sperm bank, after all their guy friends stopped returning their calls and started covering their balls with both hands.

Thanks to snitches Alyssa and Rachel, Whitney found out that Sara had been texting Hana behind her back. Whitney blew a fuse because secrets and empty promises are her M.O. Nobody likes a copycat. And Claire continues to hang onto Francine and Vivian with a clear conscience because, "both of you know what I'm doing," as if that makes it all Ok.

The Real Housewives of NYC: A Fate Worse Than Debt

Morocco is now a distant memory, but The Real Housewives of New York City remained as catty, petty and entertaining back home in their familiar concrete confines.

Alex and Ramona tried to make sexy time with their husbands, while Jill held a focus group for her new shapewear line and invited everyone ... except for Ramona.

Elsewhere, the scandalous news of Sonja's bankruptcy emerged and she fielded questions from the women, especially Jill, who wanted to know All the details.

"The Real L Word" recap: Episode 202

13 June 2011 2:08 PM, PDT | AfterEllen.com | See recent AfterEllen.com news »

This week, we open on Whitney and Sara, still in bed, still naked, and still going at it. They compare themselves to those other star-cross'd lovers, Romeo and Juliet, although I suspect Sara thinks a Capulet is something you take for a hangover.

Whitney says, "It's like I'm sneaking out on one family to go yon window breaks to the other."

I don't remember Juliet wearing heels and a thong, do you?

After they find the motivation to get vertical and go outside, Whitney and Sara check out that other hotbed of lesbian activity: a dog park. Across an expanse of poop and soggy tennis balls, is Whitney's ex and current houseguest, Rachel, who's also out for her morning constitution. She spies the two of them and puts it together; they've been hooking up. This park suddenly has two bitches, too many.

Rachel leaves without confronting Whitney. Clearly, no one »

When The Real Housewives of New York City embark on an adventure to Morocco, there will be ... camels, and people nearly falling off them. And a lot of arguing!

The women did not disappoint in part two of their Moroccan adventure.

After they decided to mount up and take a scenic camel ride, things hit a hump when the camel misbehaves and nearly hurls Countess LuAnn to a sandy demise.

Elsewhere, a fortune teller informed Ramona that another woman is thinking of her husband, Mario. This was very stressful. If a psychic says it, prepare for the worst.

The women took a trip to the famous Moroccan Souk, and while Jill and Ramona had been on their best behavior with each other on the trip, they finally had it out.

So who made up and who simply gave up? What else went down in North Africa? Follow this link for »

The Real Housewives of Staten Island enjoy quote a few fights in the latest episode as Karen and Renee grow closer and closer!

The lovely ladies of Mob Wives were back this week and we learned that one should never, ever, flirt with Renee Graziano at a bar as she will call her ex to come beat them up. Residents of Staten Island beware!

Renee and Karen Gravano were enjoying a drink at the local watering hole when a drunken man came over to aggressively flirt with the ladies. Things were going poorly to begin with when the gentleman informed Renee he did not know who she was nor did he care. This, it just so happens, is not something you say to Renee.

In no time Renee was on the phone to Junior, her ex, and had him on his way to the bar to beat up the drunken Irishman. »

‘Vampire Diaries’ Recap: Klaus’ Sacrifices Ends With The Death Of [Spoiler]. Do You Think Damon Is Next?

5 May 2011 8:30 PM, PDT | HollywoodLife | See recent HollywoodLife news »

Stop reading if you have yet to see this week’s episode, cause I’m about to blow up its spot like no other.

I don’t even have words to explain how much I loved the May 5 episode of The Vampire Diaries, but I’ll try. Between the arrival of Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) sacrifice, the death of no-longer-ignorant Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning), and Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) whole will-she-or-won’t-she vampire shenanigans, this episode was almost too much to handle at times. Like, I had to leave at least one lamp on in the room, whereas I normally watch like a scared little girl in the dark. Add to that Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) gradual death from the wolf-bite and this episode totally could have been the season finale’s doppelganger.

All right, let’s start by getting all that messy plot out of the way:
