great and underrated
mrawesome4569 February 2007
rogue trooper starts out based on a UK comic no one has ever heard of, but with a somewhat compelling story, the planed of nu earth has a toxic atmosphere so nords and souters the two rival factions have to wear gas masks constantly (shooting oxy tanks anyone?) and they are pit in a civil war over who gets to colonize the planet. You play as a genetically engineered soldier with a chip for a brain, you eventually pick up 3 chips from comrade soldiers who die early in the game, they become your helmet which is used for radar and hacking, your backpack which creates ammo and new weapons out of scrap, and your gun which can take different add-ons(via the backpack) and can auto target with ease. in short this is one of the best 3rd person shooters ever!

The Genetic Infantryman in all his glory!
DanLives19801 February 2013
In the distant future, war is raging on a faraway planet between the Southers and the Norts. An army of Genetic Infantrymen created by Millicom (Souther), to survive all conditions from toxic wastelands to radioactive fallout and to be better than the enemy in every way, are meant to be the frontline of the massive scale attack.

But when a traitor in the Souther ranks tips off the Norts on how to best counter the GI assault, they are wiped out, leaving only one man standing. Rogue goes on a worldwide search to catch and kill the traitor but since he has been considered to have acted out of treason, he is also wanted by Millicom.

Aided by the memory implants of three of his dead comrades, Helm, Bagman and Gunnar, Rogue is not only an elite soldier created to be stronger, more enduring, faster and stealthier than the opposition, he now has an arsenal of hi-tech weaponry, ammunition and gadgetry at his disposal which you can use in countless different strategies to overcome the enemy on the battlefield and the memories of his friends make for good comic relief as you go about your mission.

Add a silencer to your rifle and Gunnar will act insulted and ask something like, 'what are you trying to say?' or joke, 'if it's too loud, you're too old!' The missions, levels and enemies are all admirably recreated from the original 2000AD comic strip (Rogue Trooper was originally the second most popular character to Judge Dredd) and the levels look a lot like Judge Dredd's world, rusted titanic futuristic landscapes reminiscent of films such as Bladerunner and the Alien films. You might also feel that Avatar borrowed a hell of a lot from the look of a few levels here too such as the Petrified Forest but this just serves to bring you a game that is as rich in graphics as it is in gameplay.

As you progress, you will unlock new upgrades that allow you to create shotgun, mortar launcher, laser and rocket launcher underslungs for your rifle and then upgrade the ammunition that you use etc.

As a completely 3D 3rd Person shooter/strategy game, you go up against platoons of the enemy, enemies in robotic war suits, drones, airships, tanks and snipers to mention a few. The style of battle strategy is perfect to the point where you can't so easily outwit the enemy but outflanking their positions is the name of the game, as is out manoeuvring entire squadrons and sometimes several at a time.

Essentially, Rogue Trooper is an epic game in the vain of Max Payne, Manhunt and Punisher, yet with a military overhaul and a huge sci-fi twist that delights the gamer endlessly. This should be remade in future to be sold to a bigger audience because it had all the makings of a legend, exactly what Rogue deserved!

Great for anyone
This game delivered to me what no game at the time gave us: a science fiction game without all the swears and over the top violence and gore. I've known of this game since it first came out, and i got it on game tap for free. I beat the game and i was satisfied with it. Sadly, it was removed from the free games list and so i couldn't play it anymore. a couple years later, I saw it at a game store and got it. When i played it once again, I forgot just how good it was. This game also kind of just spoke out to me that a game could be awesome without extreme gore and bad language. This game also showed me the path towards third-person gaming, and in my opinion, this game is by far like, Assassin's Creed, and Assassin's Creed II. This game really isn't for a person who doesn't like genetic mutations (not gross at all) and gas masks that your enemies use. So pretty much this game is awesome, and is highly underrated.
