100 Years of Horror: Mutants (1996)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

Christopher Lee narrates this entry in the series, which takes a look at "Mutants" but branches out into more creatures. The documentary starts off talking a look at yeti movies like Hammer's THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN as well as smaller budgeted movies like SNOW CREATURE. We also take a look at movies like CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (and it's sequels) as well as stuff like Corman's LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Also on hand are discussions about THE BLACK SLEEP and CURUCU BEAST OF THE AMAZON.

One could argue that many of these films really don't contain "mutants" but that's just a small issue as once again we're treated to a pretty good look at the genre. Again, die-hards aren't going to learn anything here they didn't know but at least we get some entertaining interviews including John Carradine talking about THE BLACK SLEEP and working with Basil Rathbone. Another funny story comes from Jonathan Haze and Dick Miller on LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Richard Cunha discusses MISSILE TO THE MOON and Beverly Garland tells a story about almost being burned to death in CURUCU. John Agar, William Alland, Lori Nelson, Richard Denning and Corman are also interviewed. Once again we're treated to countless film clips and Lee is again fun to listen to.
