The Pilot, in which events revolve around Dillon High School's first football game of the season, has several scenes in which there are leafless trees and winter skies, and many characters and background players are dressed for cold weather. The first game of a Texas high school's football season takes place in late August/early September, so trees would still be carrying all of their leaves for months and temperatures would be extremely hot in every part of the state (Dillon, the home team, is identified as being in West Texas). Interspersed between these scenes are others in which high sun angles, hot temperatures, fewer layers of clothing and fully blossoming trees are seen in the shots, revealing that the Pilot was filmed at various times during distinct, separate seasons. Give all of us gathered here tonight the strength to remember that life is so very fragile. We are all vulnerable, and we will all, at some point in our lives... fall. We will all fall. We must carry this in our hearts... that what we have is special. That it can be taken from us, and when it is taken from us, we will be tested. We will be tested to our very souls. We will now all be tested. It is these times, it is this pain, that allows us to look inside ourselves.
