- 1795 time period. Barnabas and Nathan fight to the death. Joshua orders Ben to seal Barnabas's coffin. Victoria awaits her hanging. Peter vows they will be reunited someday somehow.
- Barnabas Collins enters the great house at Collinwood as Nathan Forbes, armed with a crossbow, waits in the study. When Barnabas opens the door to the study, Nathan shoots, but the arrow fails to penetrate Barnabas's heart. Barnabas closes in, and Nathan screams.
Barnabas and Joshua Collins discuss the situation in Joshua's study. Ben Stokes has buried Forbes's body. Joshua will tell people that Nathan has abandoned his wife, Millicent Collins Forbes, and left town. Joshua intends to write out of history both her marriage to Nathan and Barnabas's marriage to Angelique. Joshua will adopt Millicent's younger brother, Daniel, since Joshua has lost all of his children. He will tell the world that his wife, Naomi, died from natural causes rather than the truth that she died by her own hand.
Barnabas asks his father for three favors: for Ben Stokes that his father free him from indentured servitude; for Victoria Winters that he attempt to stop her execution; and for himself that his father put him out of his misery by shooting him in the heart with silver bullets. Joshua promises to try to do all of these things except that he cannot promise to destroy Barnabas. Joshua apologizes for not being a more loving father. Barnabas warns that part of the curse on him is that everyone who loves him will soon die; so better not to love him. Barnabas leaves for the mausoleum as dawn approaches. Joshua gets his gun and the silver bullets he has had specially made.
At the mausoleum, Joshua cannot bring himself to shoot his slumbering son despite his being a vampire. He instead orders Ben to put a silver cross under the coffin lid, facing Barnabas, and then tightly wrap the whole coffin in chains. Ben does as he is told and bids Barnabas goodbye. Ben finds Joshua in his study and says that he has completed his task. Joshua frees Ben and gives him $100. Riggs arrives with notice that the governor has denied Joshua's request for a stay of execution. Victoria will be executed on schedule tonight.
At the jail, Victoria and Peter have their final minutes together. Peter declares that somehow they will be reunited. He will find her even if he has to traverse time and space. Victoria promises to remember his vow before being led to the gallows. She is fitted with the noose and assents to having a hood placed over her head. Then she recalls Peter's vow before being hanged.
