Publicity for this doc declared ''this is the first time the story of the Nautilus and the dramatic adventure has been told.''
Trond Eliassen started working on the Nautilus story several years prior to this film. His research led him to the USA where the unique archive footage on which this documentary is based was discovered in dust in a public archive.
A model of the Nautilus was made as part of the PR for the expedition in 1931. Today, it stands at the Byrd Polar Research Centre in Columbus, Ohio, USA.
"Voyage of the Nautilus" was an international co-production between AS Videomaker (Norway) and Gabriel Films (New York).
The story of Sir Hubert Wilkins and his voyage aboard the Nautilus had been long forgotten. The story is full of drama and ranks as one of the great adventures of all time. This incredible story of courage, sabotage and adventure was told for the first time with this film.
