Not a happy way to start a marriage.

Warning: Spoilers
An accused witch and the real witch go toe-to-toe in this episode, politely, but Angelique, the real witch secretly isn't happy and lies about her feelings, having once arranged for Reverend Trask to find out where Victoria was hiding. Barnabas already is unhappy in their marriage, having discovered Angelique listening to a music box that was really meant for Josette. There have been many marriages on the soaps where one partner was forced to the the knot, and after the I do's, the bride or groom says I won't, and here, it appears that it's going to be Barnabas. 95% of these marriages are over within weeks, so it will be interesting to see what transpires with Barnabas and Angelique, especially since Barnabas has been continuously said that he could never love Angelique the way he loves Josette. Already, she's plotting, and the wedding night isn't even over.

First of all, Angelique has to scheme against Abigail and orders Ben to go over there to steal a ribbon from her room. Of course since the scheme is meant to expose the fact that Victoria is in the old house, Ben refuses at first, but he can't help himself under Angelique's powers, and of course he's caught. Clarice Blackburn is only on screen for a few minutes, but in that short moment of time, she manages to imperiously steal the episode from Thayer David, no slouch himself in the acting department. So Abigail isn't going to get her comeuppance as of yet, and while some of the plot lines are moving slowly, there is still a lot of them trade along the way and that makes it fun to watch if not still a bit frustrating.

Schemer

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 398 offers more scheming from the hateful Angelique, who is getting way too much screen time in these episodes. Still, it's nice to see a typically worried-looking Victoria showing up for what amounts to a cameo, and Ben's cross-examination makes for high drama.
