[the Women's Auxiliary are planning an upcoming charity dance]
Nancy : I think it would add considerably to the gaiety of the occasion if, along about midnight, we had a great fanfare of trumpets and released hundreds of balloons... . During my undergraduate days at Vassar, we had some really gay parties, and they always featured balloons at midnight. Of course, that was a few years ago.
[Nancy's husband, Clifford, is sitting at the side of the room, one of only three husbands who showed up for the meeting]
Clifford : You can say that again!
Nancy : Did you say something Clifford?
Clifford : [sheepishly] I think it's a splendid idea.
Nancy : Thank you.
Clara : Well, there's just one thing: can we get enough balloons on such short notice?
Nancy : Oh, yes, I'm quite sure we can. You see, my sister's husband happens to be in that business. As a matter of fact, I have a few samples right here, if you'd care to see one. I'm not sure I have sufficient wind to blow them up.
Clifford : Is she kidding?
