You can tell that he wants to, especially when Victoria tells him that Maggie was her first friend. She has just had a chat with Carolyn which started out nice then turned into an argument, but fortunately by the end of the episode, they will make amends. Of course she feels justified over Victoria's agreement to be her mother's witness, but her conversation with Joe makes Carolyn take a look at herself. I disagree that she is often cruel, perhaps because there have been worse poor little rich girls on the soaps, and Carolyn is simply a victim of the Collins curse that has her often not making the best decisions.
