I must say, for as many movies that are being released today It's staggering to realize the best and most interesting of the bunch are probably the two documentaries. Sure, Despicable Me was enjoyable, but do you really need to see it again? I also know a lot of people enjoyed The Town, so perhaps that's the one narrative exception, but outside of a catalog title or two this is a weird week for new releases. I see a lot of films I enjoyed this year listed below, but I'm not rushing out to add any of them to my collection.

Despicable Me A solid animated feature, but having only seen it once I can't say if it's worth a purchase or just a one-time viewing. Oddly enough this looks like it's Universal's only shot at an Oscar this »

The Nash Bridges alum recently did an arc on ABC's Lost and co-starred in Robert Rodriguez's Machete. Spinoff fail: 6 would-be shows that never got out the back door

1 November 2010 6:27 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

There have been more than a dozen successful TV spinoffs launched over the past couple of decades. And there has also been "Sunset Division."

If you don't remember that little gem, a would-be offshoot of "Crossing Jordan," you're not alone. But it was once a real-live possibility to make NBC's schedule for the 2003-04 season, and viewers got a tease of it in April 2003, when "Jordan" followed Woody Hoyt (Jerry O'Connell) to Los Angeles on a case.

The show didn't go forward from there, however, which makes it one of those would-be spinoffs that actually got a trial on-air run as part of their parent shows but never advanced beyond that. Six of them, including Woody's ill-fated adventures in L.A., from the last 15 years are below.

One caveat: We're not talking about proposed shows, a la the long-discussed "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spinoff "Ripper," that have never put any action on film, »

'Brothers & Sisters' preview: Rebecca's last stand

16 October 2010 11:08 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

After watching Sunday's (Oct. 17) episode of "Brothers & Sisters," be prepared to feel a bit down as Emily VanCamp says goodbye to the show.

We weren't sure how the writers would pull it off. How could they sell their millions of viewers on a storyline that saw Rebecca say goodbye with so much still so unsettled in her life?

And before watching the episode, it felt almost cruel for the producers to let her go after all that we've (and the Walkers) have gone through to accept her into the mix.

The bright side is we don't think you'll be disappointed. The show has definitely pulled it off. Somehow, they've made it so it makes good sense that she leaves. And with all the build up to her exit, that's quite a feat.

We have nothing but praise for Dave Annable (Justin) and Patricia Wettig's (Holly) performances in this episode. »

NBC Goes Family Comedy Route With 'Man Of The House' Half-Hour Project

5 October 2010 2:00 PM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Feature writer Adam Sztykiel, co-writer of Todd Phillips' upcoming feature film laugher Due Date as well as Made of Honor, is transitioning to television. He's got a comedy project at NBC and is writing it with veteran TV scribe Rob Cohen who is supervising the script for Man of the House, a Mr. Mom role reversal family show. This marks a rare foray into family comedy for NBC, which has been focused on workplace and romantic relationship half-hours for the past few years. In a rare cross-pollination between vertically-integrated congloms, ABC Studios and studio-based Mark Gordon Co are producing for NBC, with Gordon and Andrea Shay executive producing alongside Sztykiel and Cohen. Known mostly for its drama portfolio, which includes Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Army Wives, the Mark Gordon Co made comedy development a priority this season and has sold 5 half-hour projects so far: 3 to ABC, 1 to Fox, »
