Warning: Spoilers
Why the low rating? This episode is more interesting than the usual "someone's dead, now I have to convince their family I can see ghosts so they can move on(and don't forget the tears).

In this episode, Melinda buys a collection of ornaments from a flea market that have a mute spirit attached to them. I won't reveal anything else, that'd spoil the fun if you haven't seen the ep yet.

I used to think this show needed more evil. OK, it could do with it in light splodges here and there, but Supernatural can take care of all evil spirit needs. What this show needs most is exactly what this episode (in part) provides. Mystery. The more anomalies, the more intrigue, the more Melinda can't quite grasp what she's up against, the more bums will be on seats come airing night. Oh, and the more Jay Mohr we'll get. I never laugh during Ghost Whisperer, this guy provides some much needed comic relief. Oh, and there's a CGI sequence here that really surprised me. For a show with a budget like this, that's some nice, creative work.

So, aside from evil and mystery, we need a through line, something connecting the episodes together and it looks like that's coming back. Call it this season's 'laughing man' or whatever. We're at a stage where this show is just getting better and better, because, let's face it, there's a few more solid spirit oriented shows out there, so this one needs to pull it's socks up. There are a few 'formulaic' bits that need to be shaken up. There are things one can't avoid like in this episode for example, Delia's oh-so-obvious role in the series, to replace Andrea, is played out in a way where one can almost lip-sync with the scene without having ever seen it before. So, not perfect, but surely entertaining. And I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Warning: Spoilers
THE GHOST WITHIN gives us a rather tricky mystery to gnaw on for a bit. Melinda picks up an unusual antique puzzle at a flea market only to find it comes attached with the spirit of a youngish man who doesn't seem to want to answer her questions. When she traces back the location of the dead man, she finds herself confronted with a living but equally uncommunicative female of about the same age as the dead man. I will say nothing more about the plot, for fear of giving it away. Melinda has her hands full dealing with a dead man and a live woman both of whom apparently are unwilling to work with her. The answer to this dilemma is a wowser. And the solution to the antique puzzle, pieces of which keep showing up here and there, leads to a jaw-dropping climax. A moment where two hands touch over a more conventional, modern jigsaw puzzle, with no words spoken, is one of this series' finest moments.

1 of the episodes I don't care to watch.

This episode is about autistic people & I'm sensitive to this episode b/cuz my son is 14 & autistic. Nothing like how the actors on this episode portraying autistic adults. But the thing that makes me not interested in this episode is the mother of the female autistic adult. Autism is still in it's infancy. Doctors & scientists know just a little bit more than only 20-30 yrs ago. How can a mother ever say about her child, how can she love her if her daughter doesn't know how to love her back, or that she wants to love her. It hurts watching that. I WOULD NEVER send my son away. It worries me to send him to school. I'm very protective & I'm so scared for him after I pass on. I'm scared of some 1 hurting him in any specific way. I'll always be right there w/ till I can't be. I didn't know what love was what it truly felt like until I became a mommy.
