Storyline

Centuries ago, the evil Emperor Han was cursed by the sorceress Zi Yuan who transformed him and his army into mummies. In 1946, the explorer Rick O'Connell and his wife Evelyn O'Connell are invited by the British government to take a relic, the diamond "The Eye of Shangri-La" to China. The ancient stone is capable of resurrecting the Emperor Han and of pointing the way to Shangri-La and the eternal pool of life. When the couple reaches China, they meet their son Alex O'Connell, who has discovered the tomb of Han, and Evelyn's brother Jonathan Carnahan. The O'Connells are betrayed by their friend Prof. Roger Wilson, who is associated with General Yang. Yang wants to serve Emperor Han, so he resurrects the mummy and they head for Shangri-La. The guardian of Han's tomb (and Zi's daughter) Lin tells them that the only ways to destroy Han is to prevent him from reaching Shangri-La or by stabbing his heart with a cursed dagger. Trivia

The airplane used to fly to Shangri-La, based on the Bristol Beaufighter widely used by Britain and Australia in World War II, might reasonably be expected to be available in China. Built as a two-seat fighter-bomber, it was never converted into a passenger-carrying aircraft, but such a conversion might have been theoretically possible. The aircraft shown is based on a real one, completed on 04/02/45 and assigned to 93 Sqn based st Kingaroy. It carried the code SK-N, and was nicknamed "Babs." On the rudder was a large gremlin, "pistol pakin' gremlin." She was crewed by WOFF L.W. Mutton (pilot) and FLTSGT C.G. Curthoys (navigator/radio operator/rear gunner.) On 09/11/45 she suffered a forced landing at Neomfoor after the starboard engine seized. She went into storage on 09/02/46 and was struck off on 08/08/49. 93 Sqn was formed on 22 Jan 1945 without an official name or motto but unofficially became the "Green Ghost Squadron" with the unofficial motto "Spookus Sneakinus". Mid 1945 the squadron transferred to Labuan, an island off Borneowith the mission to disrupt Japanese shipping and airfields. In August 1945 the squadron was sent to destroy a Japanese oil tanker; the ship was sunk but turned out to be the 800 ton private yacht of the Rajah of Sarawak. 93rd Squadron was disbanded on 22 Aug 1946. Quotes

Jonathan Carnahan: As much as I want to stay boyishly handsome forever, Shang-ri La is a crock.
Rick O'Connell: That's what you use to say about mummies Jon and you did pretty well off it.
Jonathan Carnahan: Good point.

Terrible cash in by all involved.
17 July 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

I was able to see this film about a month ago in a preview screening and to put it in kind words, its terrible. Jet Li is about the only good thing about the film but he's hardly in it. Brendan Fraser was phoning in his performance and looked if he was waiting from a call from his agent to get him out of the movie. Maria Bello looked goofy and miscast and the actor who plays their son makes Hayden Christensen from the Star Wars films look like an Oscar winner. John Hannah manages to bring some laughs to the table but his stick is not as fresh as it was before and Michelle Yeoh does not really do much with her role. This movie lacks the creepiness of the first two Mummy movies and the stone warriors of this movie don't hold a candle to the ghouls of the first two films at all. Not to mention the fact that the visual effects in this film look even worse than the second film(The Mummy Returns). The film itself seemed toned down in the fun and thrills department and just feels tired in certain scenes not to mention the dialogue, which seems like it was written by a five year old. This film seemed like a quick payday from all involved and sadly with the little effort spent in giving the audience something to root for and care for, its just feels like no one even cared about what they were making.
