This is the first season premiere to feature Berta (Conchata Ferrell). The previous three seasons did not feature her character until at least the second episode.
Episode title spoken by Berta, to herself, the morning after Charlie's party.
The episode title is a reference to Roman Emperor Caligula (AD 37-41), who was known for his cruelty and sexual appetite.
During his party, Charlie is shown to have a game of "cockeyed chess" set up on his coffee table. This is an absurdist version of chess in which the players drink their captured enemies and are able to see their own faces in the reflective board, which serves as a metaphor for the players' narcissism and increasingly drunken foolishness.
The girls who have sex with Charlie are named after three fictional characters. Marie is named after Marie Cartwright from "Bonanza", Cindy is named after Cindy Walton from "The Waltons" and Tina is named after "Talky Tina" Carlyle from "The Twilight Zone" episode, 'Living Doll'.
