"Lovesick" was the short that introduced me to Zimmerman's work, which left me dying to see more. If their was one word to describe "Lovesick" it would be, heartburn. In film, you only tend to see the good side of love, with "Lovesick" you hear personal stories ranging from innocent (a little boy talking about what he think love is) to horrifying (a young man describing the physical abuse he witnessed of his mother by his father.) The way the subjects are filmed makes it seem that all the red is bleeding out of their eyes and faces while they are pouring their hearts out on screen. You have a real sense of these people because you are looking into them at all times. The way the film really works is the way Zimmerman explores his subjects without exploiting them.
