Storyline

Jack Regan is a slobbish, old style cop whose unsubtle methods usually get results, to the annoyance of internal affairs officer Lewis, who would be even more annoyed if he knew that Regan was having an affair with his young wife, policewoman Nancy. After Regan disobeys orders and a shoot-out in central London following a bank hold-up ends in carnage, he is stripped of office and briefly imprisoned. However, thanks to the loyalty of his young protege George Carter and a little string pulling from his superior Frank Haskins, Regan is released to bring down the villains in a gun battle at Gravesend marina, ensuring the continued existence of his department - the Sweeney. Trivia

Although Regan and Carter are shown driving cars, the real Flying Squad have specialist drivers. All they do is drive, and are trained to exceptional levels. The most senior officer in a car would sit in the front passenger seat, as was the case in the original TV series The Sweeney (1975) in which most of the driving was done by the "Bill the Driver" or other drivers. Goofs

Just before attending the armed robbery at QTZ, a watch shows it is 10am. After the chase Regan's phone displays the time as 16:15. Also, the large white Samsung with no signal clearly differs from the black phone he was using in the car when being told to stand down. See more »

Another Stolen Title
8 January 2013 | by (China) – See all my reviews

I remember the original TV series with fondness, a low budget but gutsy, urban, gritty cop show. If you've ever seen The Shield or Life on Mars you have an idea of the kind of show it show it was.

What the makers thought they were getting from this show I do not know. The title is the only thing this movie has in common with the original. This is a very slickly affair with cinematography befitting a sic-fi movie. The musical score is straight from Nolan's Batman, and most of the action seems to happen in country lanes and yacht docks when it should have been happening on the streets of London. The scenes that do happen on the streets of London show a bizarre deserted version of London I've never seen, not even at 3 in the morning. The story and the acting are not worth mentioning.

The plot to the movie is straight out of an American action movie which is a real shame. If you've never seen the original or even heard of it then you probably think it's a passable action movie. However as there was such an opportunity to do something uniquely British and original here it is a huge disappointment. It just goes to show that Hollywood are not the only ones that produce hackneyed crap.
