- [first lines]
- Victoria Winters: [voiceover] My name is Victoria Winters. Collinwood is a mansion of more than eighty rooms. But most of them have been closed off for years and their only visitors have been ghosts and spectres that locked doors cannot keep out or in, as I have been kept a prisoner by the treachery of a small boy who has told no one where I am. Time has seemed endless, and all I can do is sit and wonder if anyone will ever come to my rescue.
- Victoria Winters: [Roger embraces the rescued and hysterically sobbing Victoria] You don't know how horrible it was!
- Roger Collins: What happened?
- Victoria Winters: He-he-he got me up here. He admitted he stole the pen, and it was in here. And then he left me alone, and he ran out, and he locked the door!
- Roger Collins: There, there, let's get out of here. We can talk about it later. Come on.
- Victoria Winters: He did it deliberately! He tried to kill you, and now he's tried to kill me!
- Roger Collins: Come on, dear, let's get out of this dismal place.
- Victoria Winters: That's not all. There are ghosts in Collinwood.
- Roger Collins: Ghosts?
- Victoria Winters: I never believed in them before, but I do now. I saw a ghost!
- Roger Collins: You saw a ghost?
- Victoria Winters: It was here, in this room. It was tall and shimmering, covered in water and dropping with seaweed. I know it was a ghost. It spoke to me.
- Roger Collins: It did what?
- Victoria Winters: It warned me to leave Collinwood.
- Roger Collins: Who was it?
- Victoria Winters: It was Bill Malloy!
