Interesting if a bit obscure.

This episode of "The American Experience" is the story of John Wesley Powell and his exploration of the Grand Canyon and the Colorado River in 1869. Today, this story is mostly forgotten and while it may SOUND like an easy thing traveling the river, it wasn't. The film chronicles the many difficulties Powell and his men had in their longer than expected expedition. In addition, the after-effects on Powell's life are discussed--such as his great speaking tour, public acclaim and eventual leadership of the US Geological Survey. And, the public's new fascination of the place grew--leading to folks actually seeking out the Grand Canyon for the first time. It also discusses the man's later fall from grace (don't worry...it's not THAT bad a fall) as well as his legacy.

Like you'd expect, this one is well made just like a typical "American Experience" film. And, although the subject is a bit obscure, it's worth seeing and interesting.
