At Collinwood, David (David Henesy) finds the letter Vicki received from the Hammond Foundling Home regarding her mysterious hiring. David fears he may be sent there. Roger (Louis Edmonds) retrieves the letter and scolds his son. Vicki (Alexandra Moltke) takes the opportunity to again confront Liz (Joan Bennett) about why she was hired, but her employer quickly arranges a cover story. Liz sends Vicki upstairs to tutor, and convinces Roger to support her lie. Liz states, "My reasons for engaging Miss Winters are private," and reveals nothing to either her brother or viewers...

Flies on "Dark Shadows" buzz around frequently, and this episode features their first full scale attack. Two circle around Ms. Bennett as she arranges her cover story regarding bringing Victoria Winters to Collinwood, and one lands in her hair. Bennett was having a strong day and this distracts. The special delivery letter is addressed: Miss Victoria Winters / Collinwood / Collinsport, Maine. While we follow the how the letter changes hands, we must also remember to keep track of who has the "bleeder valve" taken from Roger's car. By the closing credits, you should know where both are...
