Who would have thought Eastman's life would be so interesting?

I liked this episode of "The American Experience" because it was not about super-famous folks like presidents and various events from American history. Instead, it was about a seemingly mundane guy, George Eastman, the founder of Kodak. It follows his life as well as his inventions that helped take photography from the studio and into the hands of the average person. This sort of history, social history, is what I have always found quite fascinating. Wars and 'big events' are all well and good, but the lives of average folks and how they changed and improved are often ignored by history classes and books--it's nice to see Eastman get his due.

The show was made using various old photographs, interviews and is narrated by Judith Light. My only complaint, and it's a TINY one, is that Light's voice was so soft and soothing, I found a harder time keeping awake--but I DID enjoy the film! Well worth seeing and a quality production.

Along the same vein of men who made this country a better place, I would love to see an episode about Milton Hershey--a great man in his own way--at least when it came to what he did with his fortune.
