It could have been better....

This is a biography of Harry Houdini that was shown on PBS a decade and a half ago. It's interesting and well worth watching, though I thought occasionally one of the 'experts' was a bit difficult to take. He made some bizarre comparisons that seemed WAY over-stated--such as the public's fascination with Houdini was because when he threw off his chains during his act, it was indicative of a desire by the poor to throw off the chains of oppression. Yeah, right... Additionally, several folks said that Houdini's acting was terrible but I've seen most (if not all) of the surviving silent films made by Houdini and thought he was just fine. Apart from these things, the rest was interesting--how the man continually hurt himself and even risked his life to get magic tricks just right! An odd showman, that's for sure and a reasonably good biography that's narrated by Mandy Patinkin.
