  Dr. Eli Vance : The last time I heard those words was back at Black Mesa. You had just stepped into the test chamber when he whispered them in my ear. You know who I'm talking about. Our mutual friend.

  [Eli gets up from the couch and looks at a photo of he, his wife, and Alyx when she was a little girl] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : When he brought in that crystal, I knew I... I should have aborted that damned test, but... I didn't. The whole world went to hell that day. And now... Now he's using my little girl. Putting words in her mouth. God... damn it! I should have known when he rescued her it was for his own damn reasons.

  [standing facing Gordon] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : Gordon... there's so much I need to tell you. Between us, we may finally have a chance to--

  [Alyx returns with the tea] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : Oh.

  Alyx Vance : Here you go. Is everything all right?

  [Magnusson enters the room from the main entrance] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : Oh, it's nothing, honey.

  [they sit down] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : All right, people - change of plans. There is no way we can launch before those striders are...

  [he sees Alyx and Eli sitting on the couch] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : Oh - oh, excuse me if I'm interrupting tea time. I'll just step out until you've finished if that's more convenient.

  Dr. Eli Vance : [aside]  It's all right, honey.

• Dr. Eli Vance : We'll catch up with you in a moment, sweetheart.

  [Alyx runs off] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : Gordon, hold up a second...

  Alyx Vance : Dog! There you are!

  Dr. Eli Vance : The more I think about that warning from our friend, the more I'm convinced it has to do with Borealis. Don't be deceived. That ship must never be used. You have got to destroy it. Whatever the cost.

  Alyx Vance : [from outside]  Where are you two? You're gonna miss it!

  Dr. Eli Vance : Be right there, Alyx.

  [back to Gordon] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : Gordon, thanks for everything you've done. For Alyx, for all of us. I couldn't be prouder if you were my own son. Now when you get back, we've got a lot to talk about.

• Dr. Isaac Kleiner : [after the rocket launch; Gordon, Eli, and Alyx are headed outside to see the rocket close the Combine superportal]  There should be quite a show. Regrettably, I can't come out with you. Magnusson and I will need to keep a close eye on the rocket's trajectory.

  Alyx Vance : Aren't you gonna see us off?

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Just as soon as this is wrapped up. I wouldn't dream of letting you go without a proper goodbye!

  Alyx Vance : Okay, I'll hold you to that. You too, Dr. Magnusson.

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : [on a video screen]  Indeed.

• Alyx Vance : [the White Forest alarm goes off again]  Another alarm?

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : Oh, what next in the parade of constant interruptions?

  [into a mic] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : Hello? Hello, is anyone there? Anyone?

  [sighs] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : False alarms all day - damn crows have been nesting in the tracks. I do not know how I am supposed to concentrate with all of this racket. Freeman - Freeman, you're not doing anything. Make yourself useful and find out what the hell is going on in there.

• Resistance fighter : [Gordon and Alyx have just entered a Resistance base, a Hunter-Chopper chasing them]  Seeing as you brought that chopper in on your tail, you wanna, maybe, help us take it down?

  Alyx Vance : Oh, with pleasure!

• Dr. Arne Magnusson : [during pre-launch checks, Alyx and Gordon walk in after a successful defense of the base]  Hold on a moment, Kleiner.

  [he exits the room and comes out into the hall] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : Ah, Freeman. Well, I see the Magnusson Device performed flawlessly.

  [Alyx looks at him incredulously] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : I feel compelled to thank you, personally, for saving my rocket.

  [Alyx looks at Gordon in disbelief] 

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : So um, thank you. Ahem... Well, that's enough chitchat. I've got a rocket to launch.

  [he returns to the control room] 

  Alyx Vance : [laughs]  Wow, for a minute there I thought you were gonna get a hug.

• Uriah : [to Alyx, after Gordon has re-sealed Silo 2]  If you would take the Freeman from here, I can return to my place of honor at the side of the Magnusson.

  Alyx Vance : Sure thing! Thanks for the help.

  [subtitles incorrectly say "Better now!" for the second sentence] 

• Dr. Isaac Kleiner : [after watching the video from Judith Mossman from a cold location to the north]  Wait a moment... There's something else here.

  [the viewscreen shows a shaky video of a large ship stuck in rocks or ice; Kleiner gasps] 

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : It's... the Borealis!

  Dr. Eli Vance : Good God!

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Incredible!

  Alyx Vance : What? The Borealis? It's real?

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Oh yes, quite real, despite its almost legendary stature. Our peers at Aperture Science were at work on a project of some promise, but in their rush to beat Black Mesa for funding, they must have compromised ordinary standards of risk. We heard their research vessel had simply disappeared. Vanished - with all hands... even part of the dry dock! Few believed the Borealis would ever be seen again.

  Dr. Eli Vance : It should have been lost forever.

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Ah, but now that we've found it, we can use it against the Combine!

  Alyx Vance : Did you ever-

  [is cut off by her dad] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : [to Kleiner]  Use it? That thing has to be destroyed!

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : But think of the advantage for humanity! We can't simply waste all that potential.

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Hasn't Black Mesa taught you anything? There's no controlling that kind of power!

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Well yes, there's always a risk, Eli. But my goodness, we have coordinates, blueprints, hailing frequencies... Quite ingenious of Dr. Mossman, to hide it all in the carrier wave.

  Dr. Eli Vance : Well, that means she's still alive up there. But if the Combine catch her, they'll tear out everything she knows. There'll be nothing left of her.

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : But... we don't know for sure...

  Dr. Eli Vance : I won't take that chance! I'm going after her.

  Alyx Vance : Dad!

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Now, Eli... The only thing worse than Judith falling into their hands would be if they should get a hold of you. She may know the particulars of the Borealis, but you... you know everything about the resistance!

  Alyx Vance : Listen to Dr. Kleiner, Dad. Gordon and I are more than able to handle this. We'll get her back.

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : [on the announcement system]  Kleiner, where are you? Why isn't the decoding finished?

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : Oh fie, the code. Yes, Magnusson, it just needs a little bit longer!

  Dr. Arne Magnusson : If you're waiting for the Combine's go-ahead, they'll soon be here to give it to you in person!

  Dr. Isaac Kleiner : I'll hurry it along, Magnusson. I'll be back as soon as I finish.

• Dr. Eli Vance : [wrapping up a video call with Alyx and Gordon from White Forest base]  Get here as quickly as you can, you two.

  [reception breaking up] 

  Dr. Eli Vance : But for God's sake, be careful.

  Alyx Vance : Dad? Dad!

  Overwatch : [a loud announcement from outside]  Ongoing sector sweep. Biotics confirmed. Continue surface sector sweep. Remote compliance. Exterminate. Seek passive signature imprint. Mandate sublevel restrictions.

  Alyx Vance : [while the Overwatch speaks]  You're breaking up - come in. Dad - are you there? Dad! Ah, no! They're still tracking us. We need to keep moving.

  [she opens a door] 

  Alyx Vance : Come on, this way.

• Overwatch : [Gordon, Alyx, and the Lone Vort emerge from the caves to the outdoors to see a long parade of Combine soldiers, striders, gunships, and other vehicles all walking in the same direction, taking up the entire length of the bridge and never ceasing]  All autonomous units: Accept mandatory sector assimilation. Coordinated constriction underway. Debride and cauterize. Entering phase nine, enhanced compliance. Deploy advisory control and oversight. Submit and be subsumed.

  Alyx Vance : [while the Overwatch voice is speaking in the distance]  Oh my god. The Combine's on the move.

  Lone Vort : Yes, and they carry Shu'ulathoi. Advisors, still in incubation pods. They gather and unite the scattered Combine forces.

  Alyx Vance : So that's what we saw in the Citadel. They're sure in a hurry.

  Lone Vort : They move north with great purpose.

  [the announcement has ended by this time] 

  Alyx Vance : North? White Forest! We have to get there ahead of them!

  Lone Vort : I know of humans with a vehicle, not far from here. They will understand our urgent need.

  Alyx Vance : What are we waiting for?

• Overwatch : [while Gordon and Alyx are busy fighting of a lot of Combine Hunters and soldiers inside an abandoned roadside inn]  Alert. Anticitizen One engaged. Vance subprime engaged. Expunge. Mandate removal of active signature imprint. Cauterize and expunge.

  Alyx Vance : [shortly after "Anticitizen One engaged"]  Listen! They're talking about us! They're still after the data packet!

• Alyx Vance : [Gordon and Alyx have just destroyed the life support of a Combine Advisor which escaped to the sky after attempting to probe them; Alyx and Gordon get back on their feet after being dropped to the ground]  Oh my god! Gordon... Thank God you're all right! That thing was hurt. Did you see it? I can only imagine what it would have done if...

  Overwatch : [in the distance]  Vital alert. Autonomous units subsumed. Mandatory compliance with all tenets of advisorial assistance act. Threat level adjustment. Probe. Expunge.

  Alyx Vance : [while the announcement is happening]  Uh oh. Sounds like it called its friends.

  [Combine soldiers can be heard approaching their position. A door bomb begins to beep] 

  Alyx Vance : Soldiers!
