Report: Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye Makes A Cameo In 'Thor'

31 December 2010 11:34 AM, PST | Access Hollywood | See recent Access Hollywood news »

Jeremy Renner was unveiled as "The Avengers" cast member Hawkeye at Comic-Con back in July, but it looks like he'll appear on the big screen as the master bow and arrow wielder much sooner.

According to The Wrap, Hawkeye has a cameo in "Thor," the superhero film fronted by Australian hunk Chris Hemsworth, which is due out on May 6, 2011.

A source which saw an early version of "Thor," told the website that Renner's bow-wielding Hawkeye is definitely in the upcoming "Thor" film.

The source did not specify how Renner's character features into the action hero ...

Week in geek's best of 2010

It's not been a vintage year for fanboy fare, writes Ben Child, but he's managed to find a top five worth shouting about. Post your own shortlist below

Once again we find ourselves in the season of lists, and just as was the case last year, I find myself incapable of finding 10 films that I can recommend as the year's best. Does this say something about the dearth of quality fanboy fare? Quite possibly. We may have emerged from the bad old years of Joel Schumacher Batman movies and Ben Affleck in a pimp suit, but there are still more poor and distinctly average films out there than there are great ones.

This year saw the arrival of Predators, much-hyped but ultimately a tired retread with few new ideas to revive the franchise, not to mention a pointless Laurence Fishburne pseudo-cameo. We also had the fetid Jonah Hex, in which »

Who Will Make a Cameo in "Thor?"

30 December 2010 3:52 PM, PST | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

The Wrap exclusively told us that Jeremy Renner will first appear as Hawkeye in a cameo in "Thor." The actor and his Marvel character will star in Joss Whedon's "The Avenger," but we'll first catch a glimpse of him in the Kenneth Branagh-directed "Thor."

This cameo is set up at the end of the film much like Samuel L. Jackson's appearance as Nick Fury at the end of "Iron Man."

An individual, who'd already seen an early cut of "Thor," confirmed this cameo to The Wrap. And also revealed that Jackson's Fury does not appear in the film.

But the big question, is "Thor" any good? We just have until May 6 when Paramount unleashes "Thor" in theaters. "The Avengers" will arrive the following year, May 4, 2012. For now, let's watch the fantastic "Thor" trailer again. »

Jeremy Renner Making Secret Appearance In 'Thor'

30 December 2010 8:24 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Already an action hero, Jeremy Renner is about to become a super hero.

The star of 'Hurt Locker' and the upcoming 'Mission Impossible' installment is rumored (according to The Wrap) to be making a much buzzed about cameo in the upcoming Marvel/Paramount movie 'Thor,' as a kind of stepping stone to his role in the 2012-schedule 'Avengers.'

Late last year, Renner said that he expected to be in 'Thor,' though he soon walked those comments back.

"That was just one of those things that got blown way out of proportion," Renner explained to Movieline. "The only reason it came out this early, because 'Avengers' is two years away, is that they're thinking Ok, we may throw him in 'Thor,' we may not, as a cameo. You know what I mean? So there's truth that we talked about it, but there's no truth to me doing it. »

Jeremy Renner In For 'Thor' Cameo, Samuel L. Jackson Out?

30 December 2010 7:43 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Jeremy Renner was outed as the front runner for Hawkeye months in advance of his finalized casting, with a report from last year suggesting that he'd play the avenging archer not just in "The Avengers," but also in "Thor."

While Renner is clearly playing Hawkeye in the superhero team-up movie, now it appears that he really does have a role to play in "Thor" as well. The Wrap reports that the "Hurt Locker" actor will mark his first performance as Clint Barton in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" adaptation, set to arrive in theaters next May.

Supposed insiders refused to comment on the context of Hawkeye's appearance, the duration of his involvement and when in the film his scenes take place. They did state, however, that Samuel L. Jackson won't appear in "Thor" as Nick Fury.

Whether or not there's any truth to the Hawkeye cameo remains to be seen, though »

You Got Your ‘Hawkeye’ In My ‘Thor’

30 December 2010 7:37 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

With all sights on The Avengers, Marvel is continuing to build its tangled web of cameos and inside jokes even though they crippled Iron Man 2. It’s unclear what role he’ll play in the story (or if he’ll just be buying coffee in the background of a scene), but Jeremy Renner will appear as Hawkeye in Thor. Why is a cameo more likely than a small role? Because Hawkeye’s origin story involves being moved by Iron Man (the hero, not the film) to become a masked hero. That story also includes Black Widow, so if this is truly Thor’s movie, Hawkeye probably won’t even be facing slings and arrows just yet. [The Wrap] [Awesome image done by Brandon Peterson] »

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye to Appear in ‘Thor’… Maybe

30 December 2010 7:24 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

With Marvel’s epic comic book movie experiment “The Avengers” getting closer and closer to reality, rumors are starting to fly about how the studio will be setting the stage in their next two solo efforts, “Thor” and “Captain America.” After all, “Iron Man 2″ was chock full of “Avengers” building blocks (see: Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, etc.), so they must have something up their sleeve for “Thor,” right?

Well, we may be starting to get some of the answers, because The Wrap suggests that Jeremy Renner will be appearing as the superhero Hawkeye in “Thor” this May.

Hawkeye, of course, is a regular joe whose incredible skill with a bow and fearless attitude allow him to stand shoulder to shoulder with gods and legends. It’s the perfect sort of scrappy underdog part for Renner. And Renner hasn’t been shy about hyping the role, telling Empire over »

Hawkeye To Pop Up In "Thor"

Jeremy Renner, who plays the character in the upcoming "The Avengers", said as much in an interview back in 2009 but quickly backtracked saying his quote was "blown out of proportion."

Now a source for the site who claims to have seen an early cut of "Thor" confirmed that Hawkeye does appear though Nick Fury does not, and didn't go into details as to whether Hawkeye is in costume. Neither Marvel Studios or Paramount Pictures have confirmed or denied the report at present. »

Jeremy Renner will cameo as Hawkeye in next summer’s “Thor”

30 December 2010 6:58 AM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

By Sean O’Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: Marvel has a history of teasing its upcoming films in its current projects. Think of Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury cameo at the end of the original “Iron Man,” Robert Downey Jr. appearing as Tony Stark at the end of “The Incredible Hulk,” and the sight of Thor’s mystical hammer at the end of last summer’s “Iron Man 2.”

So it should come as no surprise that “Thor,” which kicks off the 2011 summer blockbuster season in May, will feature an important “Avengers” tie as Marvel ramps up to the 2012 “Avengers” film.

According to The Wrap, Jeremy Renner of “The Hurt Locker” will appear in “Thor” as Hawkeye, the master archer he’ll play in Joss Whedon’s “Avengers.”

Thor to Feature Hawkeye Cameo

29 December 2010 9:06 PM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

According to a report posted on thewrap.com, the May 6 release of the Kenneth Branagh directed Thor will feature a cameo  appearance by the Marvel superhero and Avengers co-member Hawkeye. Last summer at Comic Con it was announced that the 2012 Avengers film to be directed by Joss Whedon would include the master archer to be played by The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner. In the articles, a source who had seen an early cut of Thor confirmed that Hawkeye is in the film, despite earlier quotes from Renner denying the character’s involvement. It’s speculated that he will introduced in a “tag” scene following the end credits as Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury was at the end of the first Iron Man film in 2008. It was confirmed that Fury will not be in Thor, while S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Coulson played by Clark Gregg will be featured.

New ‘Thor’ Cameo Revealed

29 December 2010 7:03 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

With Marvel’s long in gestation The Avengers resulting in cameos from superheroes in movies that are not their own (such as Tony Stark in The Incredible Hulk or Nick Fury in Iron Man and Iron Man 2), the news that we’ll be seeing a hero not called Thor appearing in that hero’s film shouldn’t come as such a shock. More excitingly, it would be one who’ll be making their first appearance in any of these films.

That is, if this story coming from The Wrap (via BleedingCool) is to be believed. According to said sources, none other than Hawkeye, set to be portrayed by Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner, will have a role in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. What that cameo will entail and how long he’ll be onscreen remains a mystery, however. Apparently someone who saw an early cut of the film confirmed that »

Hawkeye to Have Cameo in ‘Thor’

29 December 2010 4:48 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

In the Marvel tradition, there has to be a cameo appearance after the credits. And it looks like it will be Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. An unidentified source who has seen an early cut of “Thor” told TheWrap that Renner’s Hawkeye appears in the film, but declined any further details regarding this cameo. The same source also confirmed Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury does not appear in “Thor.” In an earlier interview with MTV, Renner believed he will not wear the Hawkeye’s classic purple costume for “The Avengers.” “I think it’s going to be a little more reality-based,” said Renner in September. “You can kind of tell with Scarlett [Johansson]’s character in [in “Iron Man 2”], it’s going to be more of a uniform…and not a big purple, comics sort of thing.” Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor” will open in theaters on May 6, 2011. Cameos are becoming commonplace in Marvel's movies.  After Nick Fury's (Samuel L. Jackson) appearance after the credits in Iron Man and the revelation of Thor's hammer Mjolner after the credits in Iron Man 2, fans are expecting to see some kind of cameo in Kenneth Branagh's Thor.  We may now know what that cameo will be. For those who don't mind a minor spoiler, hit the jump.  Thor stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, and Anthony Hopkins.  It opens in 3D on May 6, 2011. The Wrap is reporting that Jeremy Renner will be making a cameo appearance as Hawkeye at some point in Thor.  Their source would not elaborate on when Hawkeye (real name Clint Barton) would appear in Thor or the details of that appearance. In November 2009, Empire Online speculated that Renner would appear in Thor post-credits like Jackson in Iron Man.  The Oscar-nominated actor told Empire: »

Will Hawkeye Make a Cameo in Thor?

As you all know by now Jeremy Renner is set to play Hawkeye in Joss Wehdon's The Avengers. At one point Renner said that the character would pop up in the film Thor saying, "If I was a betting man, I would bet that Hawkeye would probably show up in Thor, and then be in The Avengers. But do I know for sure? I can’t say. But I’d love for that to happen. It’d be fun." Not long after he said that he said that he would not appear in Thor, claiming that it "was just one of those things that got blown way out of proportion," but now The Wrap say's that he will have a cameo in Thor.

Which Avenger Will Reportedly Cameo in ‘Thor’?

29 December 2010 3:47 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Marvel has established a pattern of having characters show up in small roles before playing a bigger part in later films. The obvious precedent is that Samuel L. Jackson showed up at the end of Iron Man as Nick Fury, then had a larger role in Iron Man 2, and he'll likely be an even bigger presence in The Avengers. Now there's word that another Avenger (not Nick Fury) is going to be seen briefly in Marvel's upcoming Thor. We've kept the info after the break so those who want to be surprised don't have to know too much up front. The Wrap [1] says that Jeremy Renner will appear in Thor as Hawkeye. In some ways this isn't new, because Jeremy Renner himself mentioned [2] last year that he expected Hawkeye to show up in Thor. But he went back on that statement [3] not long afterward, noting that he wasn't even »
