Brian Devlin, a former US military officer who now works as a freelance private detective, learns that he has a son he never knew about. Feeling remorse, Brian sets out to locate him. He meets the young man, named Nick Corsello, and helps him to begin his job as a private eye by offering him a job working for his PI firm. Although a little reluctant at first to work with his long-lost father, Nick comes to respect the veteran investigator and accepts to work together.
